Donald A. Moore

Donald Aldrich Moore was born Jan. 13, 1924, in Detroit, Mich., to Raymond C. and Kathryn Moore. Moore moved to South Carolina in 1949 after having served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II and graduating from Albion College.

Moore served as a teacher in the public schools of Myrtle Beach from 1950 to 1956 before entering the real estate business. He was a member of the North Myrtle Beach Real Estate Board and a charter member of the North Myrtle Beach Rotary Club.

Moore served on the Horry County Higher Education Commission from 1970 to 1994, including two terms as chairman (1975-1977), two terms as vice chairman (1973-1975) and six terms as treasurer (1985-1991).

He died Jan. 13, 2014.

Moore was named an honorary founder of Coastal Carolina University in 1999.
