General Cognate (18-19 credits):

Default for ALL students. Students can take guided complementary courses of interest and take pre-requisite classes for graduate school.

This is default option and most flexible.

  1. 100 – 200 level basic science and mathematics courses
  2. 300 – 400 level classes outside of the major
  3. 100 – 200 level pre-approved courses (e.g., in mathematics, accounting, economics, languages)

Public Health Honors Cognate (18 credits):

For Public Health students in University Honors. Must take a research class and must take a special topics course or independent study as part of their cognate. The remaining cognate courses are populated with Honors options that are not Public Health foundation courses or Public Health required courses.

Students are not required to add this option but it is recommended.

Community Health (18 credits):

To address the health needs of communities based on public health concern. Students take courses in Drugs and Society, Sexuality, Nutrition and Consumer Health.

Dietetics (19 credits):

Students can seamlessly trans- fer to Winthrop University’s post bacca- laureate program for the registered dietitian nutritionist (RDN) and/or complete Masters in Human Nutrition programs

  2. Must complete: PUBH 304 & PUBH 411Q in PUBH Electives

Health Administration (18 credits):

Students who want to gain an understanding of how to manage and run health care facilities

Health Literacy (18 credits):

For students interested in facilitating community and individual understanding of health topics, process health information and enable ability to make appropriate health decisions.
