Biography

Suheir Abu Oksa Daoud is a Palestinian writer and professor from Mi'ilya village in Western Galilee (northern Israel). She holds a Ph.D. in Political Science from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. 

Currently, she is a Professor of Political Science in the Department of Political Science at Coastal Carolina University, Conway, S.C. From 2006-2007 she was a Visiting Assistant Professor of Politics in the Department of Humanities and Social Science at Harvey Mudd College, Claremont, Calif. Daoud was a Mellon Post-Doctoral Fellow in the Department of Politics at Pomona College, Claremont, Calif. (2005-7). From 2004 to 2005 she was a visiting scholar at the Center for Contemporary Arab Studies at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. 


Daoud has authored numerous articles and op-eds in Arabic, Hebrew and English and has published four volumes of Arabic poetry and literature. Since 2006 she has been frequently published in the prestigious literature magazine al-Adab (Beirut). Her literary works have been widely reviewed in the Arab world and Europe. Some of her poems were translated into German and appeared in Iraqi poet Khalid Almaaly’s book After the Last Sky (al-Kamel, Frankfort, 2003). In February 2005, she was commissioned to write original poetry for the Washington, D.C., Shakespeare Theater Company’s March 2005 presentation of The Tempest; she also translated sections of the play from English to Arabic. Her book "Palestinian Women and Politics in Israel" was published by University Press of Florida, 2009. Her new article "Palestinian Working Women in Israel: National Oppression and Social Restraints" was published in the Journal of Middle East Women's Studies. Yale University (2012, Spring)
