January 2017


1997
Brian Batten
, Ph.D., has been promoted to an associate at Dewberry’s office in Richmond, Va. He is a senior coastal scientist and project manager with the firm’s resilience solutions group and leads the sea level rise (SLR) practice. Batten has more than 20 years of experience in coastal marine sciences and is an expert in coastal hazards, including coastal flooding, coastal erosion and SLR. He earned a doctorate in coastal oceanography and a master’s in marine environmental science from Stony Brook University.

1998
Stu Riddle
has been named head coach of the men’s soccer program at Northern Kentucky University. He previously served for four years as the head men’s soccer coach at the University at Buffalo. Riddle also was the head coach at Western Michigan University for four years. He holds a master’s degree in public service administration from Evansville.

1999
Michelle Ruthenberg
studied traditional ecological knowledge of the Makushi and the potential of local wisdom to guide conservation initiatives in Guyana as part of a master’s degree course in Miami University’s Global Field Program. She is director of dive safety and special projects at Ripley’s Aquarium and lives in Myrtle Beach.

2003
Dale Ketola
has been named the director of instruction and club fitting at The Golf Performance Center at Grande Dunes. He also is the director of the Myrtle Beach Chapter of the South Carolina Junior Golf Association Hootie & the Blowfish Chapter Series.

2005
Chris Sessions
has been appointed associate director of sales at the Hyatt Regency Huntington Beach Resort & Spa. He previously was the associate director of sales at the Omni Rancho Las Palmas Resort & Spa in Rancho Mirage, Calif.

2008
Jack Leasure
is the head boys’ basketball coach at his alma mater McQuaid Jesuit High School in Rochester, N.Y. The Knights played in the 2016 Beach Ball Classic in Myrtle Beach in December. As a member of the Chanticleer men’s basketball program, Leasure finished his career with 411 3-pointers, which is still good for 10th on the NCAA’s all-time list.

2009
Susan Scarce
has been named development officer for the Conway Medical Center Foundation. She previously served as marketing and social media manager for Myrtle Beach Golf Holiday. Scarce also is a member of the Chanticleer Athletic Foundation board of directors.

2012
Mary Cathryn Eberly
is engaged to Brad Bundrick. A March wedding is planned in Farmville, S.C. She is a fiscal analyst with the South Carolina Commission on Higher Education.
Kayla Martin is engaged to Evan Carillo. An April wedding is planned in Austin, Texas. She earned a master’s degree from in advertising from the University of Texas at Austin in 2015.
Blair Wheeler has been hired as the outdoor marketing specialist at Sweeney, a full service marketing and public relations agency headquartered in Cleveland, Ohio. He will support outdoor retail and consumer industry accounts in multiple areas and will work out of the agency’s Wilmington, N.C., office. He previous served as Hurley Surf Club’s global marketing manager.

2015
Darbie Kelley
is an inside sales consultant for the Charlotte Hornets.
Shelby Manekin is a member of the San Diego Chargers Dance Team.
Symphony Thompson orchestrated a drive to feed the homeless in the Myrtle Beach area during Thanksgiving and Christmas. She received help from CCU students and alumni.

2000
Karen (Strawser) Sanders
moved to the Washington, D.C. area, with her husband and is attending the Defense Language Institute to learn Thai. After the one-year program, they will move to Thailand for her husband’s assignment with the U.S. Air Force.  

2007
Shannon Cook
is the new cultural arts program assistant for the Thomas W. and Robin W. Edwards College of Humanities and Fine Arts at Coastal Carolina University. She assists with research and arranges travel accommodations for artists performing at CCU. Cook previously worked with WMBF-TV. 

2012
McKenzie Cochran has been promoted to residential mortgage originator for SRP Federal Credit Union. He has been working at the company for more than five years, with the majority of that time in the mortgage division serving as the secondary marketing coordinator. Cochran is a member of the Columbia County Chamber of Commerce. 

2015
Alex Ross
 was signed as a quarterback by the B.C. Lions of the Canadian Football League. He was signed by the Atlanta Falcons as an undrafted free agent and attended training camp with the club last season. He finished his career at Coastal in 2015 as the school’s all-time leader in passing yards (9,918), attempts (1,174), completions (760) and touchdowns (72).

2016
Danielle Lafreniere
recently started a job as a guest services representative at MOXI, The Wolf Museum of Exploration + Innovation, located in Santa Barbara, Calif.
Caitlin Raynor married Caleb Henley on Oct. 22, 2016, in China Grove, N.C. The couple lives in China Grove. She is an animal caretaker-zookeeper at Tiger World Endangered Wildlife Preserve.

1993
Tony Dunkin
 will be inducted into the South Carolina Athletic Hall of Fame on May 15, 2017. He is the only basketball player in NCAA history to be named its conference player of the year four times. Tony finished his career as CCU’s all-time leading scorer. 

2001
Rob Spino
 is the new director of the Coastal Carolina University Veterans Association. He teaches physical education in the Horry County Schools and is a teaching associate at CCU. Rob also serves his alma mater as a board member for both University College and the Alumni Association.

2004
Dwayne 
and Katie (’08) Harris own CrossFit Driving Formations in Myrtle Beach. Dwayne is also a fire lieutenant for the Myrtle Beach Fire Department and Katie is a licensed massage therapist. They have two girls, Reagan, 6, and Zoë, 3.

2007
Brittney ’07, ’10
 and Tommy Pelfrey Jr. recently welcomed their second child, Grace Elizabeth Pelfrey. Tommy is the area car sales manager for Enterprise in Norfolk, Va., and Brittney is senior manager of business support for Blackbaud Inc. The family of four, including son Gavin, lives in Virginia Beach, Va.

Kevin Bane and
Caroline Suitch were recently engaged. The couple lives in Philadelphia and plan to exchange vows in October in Rehoboth Beach, Del.

2009
Carson Baker 
is the owner of Baker American Cyclesin Fayetteville, N.C. He earned a 2016 Platinum Dealer Award from Indian Motorcycles.

2012
Shane Norris 
and Jess Dennison ’10 recently got engaged in front of Coastal’s bronze statue of Chauncey at the entrance to the TD Sports Complex.

2014
Daniela Corona
and Justin Priddy were recently engaged in Charleston, S.C. She works as an admissions counselor for Coastal Carolina University.

Catherine J. Monteiro
 of Louisville has been appointed to the Commonwealth of Kentucky Personnel Board by Gov. Matt Bevin.

2002
Tayfun Karadeniz 
presented at the Grand Strand Technology Council, where Grand Strand entrepreneurs shared their unique product pitches to the community. He has developed a way to put name brands into emojis on smart phone keyboards. 

2008
Mike McGrath
 has been named the foodservice business development manager for the mid-Atlantic region of Handy Seafood, a family-owned seafood processing company in Salisbury, Md. He previously worked for Waypoint in Richmond, Va., where he gained experience showing and selling the Handy product line. 

2009
Zack Byrd 
has qualified for the Sunshine Tour based in South Africa and will spend much of 2017 playing on the south end of the Africa continent. He ranked in the top 30 for the Qualifying Tournament at Randpark Golf Club in Randpark, South Africa. 

2011
Cam Freeman 
married Erin Ward on April 8th. Cam recently accepted a role as a Vice President, Business Banker at PNC Bank.
Roslyn Sakowitz has been promoted from sales representative to group sales manager at Kingston Resorts, one of the largest resort complexes in Myrtle Beach. 

2012
Nick Carolla
 was recently named project manager at Miron Construction Co. Inc. in Middleton, Wisc. He will provide direct management and oversight of construction projects.

2015
Dylan Cordaro 
and Sara Adams ’15 are planning a July wedding in Chazy, N.Y. Both are pursuing master’s degrees at the University of Albany – Sarah in epidemiology and Dylan in social studies. 

2016
Nicole Isaacs
, U.S. Air Force Airman 1st Class, graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio, Texas. She completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness and basic warfare principles and skills.

1978
Tim Hardee
, president of the South Carolina Technical College System, will be the commencement speaker for spring graduates at both Aiken Technical College and Orange-Calhoun Technical College. Hardee has more than 30 years of experience in education throughout South Carolina as a teacher, coach, counselor and principal. A CCU Alumnus of the Year, he previously served as the president of Central Carolina Technical College.

1988
Tim Carlisle
is the new president and CEO of Carolina Trust Federal Credit Union. Since joining Carolina Trust in 2010, he has served as 21st Avenue Myrtle Beach branch manager, vice president of lending and branch operations, and senior vice president/chief operations officer.

1994
Mike Skipper
is in his ninth season as coach of Conway High School’s varsity girls’ softball team. He has led the team to five consecutive trips to the state playoffs.

2000
Tara (Sparks) Alford
was named controller at Tradd Management, where she oversees financial activity, procedures and quality control for the properties under management. 

2001
Seth Smith
has been promoted by AmeriServ Bank to serve as area executive and senior vice president for Centre and Blair counties in Pennsylvania. He previously served as the vice president and commercial relationship manager in the bank’s Altoona lending office.
Brooke Weisbrod will be inducted in the Big South Conference Hall of Fame in June. She led CCU to two of its three Big South women’s basketball championship game appearances. A college basketball analyst for ESPN, she was inducted into the CCU’s Athletics Hall of Fame in 2007. 

2009
Laura Keane
has joined SAGE Eldercare as the new director of Spend-A-Day, an adult day health care program. A resident of Succasunna, N.J., she is a Certified Assisted Living Administrator. Keane most recently served as the executive director of Sunrise Senior Living of Madison.
Catherine McFaddin and Lee Mahoney were married April 8, 2017. She is a physical education teacher and coach for the Clarendon School District Two in Manning, S.C. 

2010
Nathan Craig Holloway
joined Leitner, Williams, Dooley and Napolitan PLLC as an attorney in its Knoxville, Tenn., office.
Chris Wellsand has joined Valpo Parks Golf as a teaching professional at Creekside Golf Course and Training Center in Valparaiso, Ind. He has worked in the golf industry since 2002, most recently as the general manager at Aberdeen Golf Club. 

2012
Joseph Hurley
earned a master’s degree in athletic training from Seton Hall University. He lives in Texas.
Lisa (Anastasio) Keays was recently inducted into the Tracy High School Sports Hall of Fame. She was a three-sport athlete – volleyball, basketball and softball. Keays played softball for CCU and earned all Big South Conference honors. 

2015
Julian Rhodes Dickerson III
is engaged to Macey Deanna Owens. He is a physical education teacher at Dewey L. Carter Elementary School in Florence, S.C., and the head coach for the South Florence Bruins junior varsity baseball program. Their wedding is planned for June 17, 2017
De’Angelo Henderson was drafted by the Denver Broncos in the sixth round of 2017 NFL Draft. He is CCU’s all-time leading rusher and scorer. 

2016
Schuler Benson
’s fiction and poetry has appeared in The Idle Class, Kudzu Review, The Pinch, Little Fiction, Hobart and elsewhere. He has been nominated for a Best of the Net Award, a Million Writers Award, and three Pushcart Prizes, and he placed second in The Fallen Sky Review’s 2013 Speculative Fiction Launch Contest. His first book The Poor Man’s Guide to an Affordable, Painless Suicide was a 2015 finalist for the Luminaire Award for Best Prose. He earned a master’s degree in writing from CCU.
Jalacy Green volunteers as a throwing coach at her high school alma mater Colleton County (S.C.) High School. She was a three-time SCHSL AAAA state champion in the shot put and discus, and the ESPN Gatorade Track and Field Athlete of the Year in 2012. Green serves as a case manager for the Colleton County Department of Social Services Foster Care.
G.K. Young is a first baseman with the Fort Wayne TinCaps, a Class A Minor League Baseball team in Fort Wayne, Ind., affiliated with the San Diego Padres.

1980
Joan Cribb
recently stepped down as the athletic director at Waccamaw High School in Pawleys Island. She had served in that role since 2002.

1999
Jonna Dougherty
is the assistant principle for Loris Middle School. She was previously the Response to Intervention/Title One Coordinator at Bristow Elementary School in Bowling Green, Ky.

2000
Tyler Hughes
has retired from playing soccer after spending the last eight seasons with Cowichan LMG in Lake Cowichan, British Columbia. His future plans include renewing the Cowichan club’s U21 program.

2004
Brooke Cox
was recently named as associate vice president of ambulatory operations for Tidelands Heath. She previously held the position of senior director for Tidelands Health group. In 2015 she was named statewide administrator of the year by the South Carolina Medical Group Management Association.
Ryan McGraw has been ranked by mlive.com as one of the top 25 high school baseball players from the state of Michigan during the last 25 years. While at CCU, the Saginaw Nouvel High School graduate set a national record with a 63-stolen base season and earned All-American honors. He also set Big South Conference career marks with 160 steals and 179 walks before being drafted by the San Diego Padres.

2006
Kim Rothberg
was announced as a finalist for the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching. She has been a fifth-grade teacher at Carolina Forest Elementary School her entire 10-year career.

2008
Drew McCrary
and wife Megan McCrary '08 welcomed a beautiful baby boy, James Andrew McCrary III (Tripp), on June 30th. Both still reside in Conway.

2009
Joe Harris,
former CCU men’s basketball standout, is a sheriff’s patrol deputy with the Georgetown County Sheriff’s Department.
Matt Moody married Martha Riviere Propst in May in Greenville. He is employed by Enterprise Holdings in Charleston.

2010
Chris Hennecy
is the new marketing and communications manager for the U.S. market for Filta Environmental Kitchen Solutions. He previously served as the director of marketing and communications for the BMW Car Club of America.
Marianne Long is an education director at the Atlantic White Shark Conservancy, a nonprofit organization supporting scientific research, educating the community and improving public safety.

2011
Andrew Emil Berks
married Marian Bryce in May in Irmo. He is employed with State Farm in Fort Mill.

2013
Joscelyn Smalls
married Jon Ford in May in Charleston. She is employed as a financial consultant.

2015
Derek Fenstermacher
opened the Indoor Golf & Training Center in York. The center will include instruction on all aspects of the game, equipment and apparel sales, and a golf simulator.
Nick McKinney is the curator of the Scarborough-Hamer collection at the Bertha Lee Strickland Cultural Museum in Seneca.
Justin Sullivan announced his engagement to Meagan Merryman with plans to wed in November. He is a police officer with the Metropolitan Police Department in Washington, D.C.

2016
Bailey Cocca
will compete in the Fuccillo Kia Classic of New York, a Symetra Tour event at Capital Hills in June. She is a professional golf assistant at Normanside.
Tom Saguto opened SagutoGolf at the International Club in Murrells Inlet, where he gives golf instruction and personal swing analysis.

1980
Tony Cox has been appointed by Gov. Henry McMaster as an interim commissioner for the South Carolina Department of Transportation. He also serves as executive vice president at Burroughs and Chapin Company in Myrtle Beach. He has previously served on the S.C. Estate Commission, Horry County Planning Commission and the Myrtle Beach Air Base Redevelopment Authority.
Elizabeth (Robertson) Huntsinger has joined the staff of Georgetown Times and South Strand News. She also conducts Ghosts of Georgetown Lantern Tours and is the author of Ghosts of Georgetown, More Ghosts of Georgetown, Georgetown Mysteries and Legends, and Waterline.

1992
J.J. Foster
is the new head boys’ basketball coach at South Side High School in Fort Wayne, Ind. 

1999
Jennifer (Clack) Hecht was recently featured by the Huffington Post as the founder of The Dating Advisory Board, an online service to help singles be as strategic about their love lives as they are in the boardroom.

2001
Maurice Cobb has been promoted to principal at Kensington Elementary School in Georgetown, where he previously served as the assistant principal. 
Brooke Weisbrod was inducted into the Big South Conference Hall of Fame.  She played women’s basketball, softball and tennis for the Chanticleers. Weisbrod was inducted into CCU’s Athletic Hall of Fame in 2007. She is a college basketball analyst for ESPN.

2002
Larry Roberts was recently named the 2017 Subway Standout Coach. Three years ago he started a basketball league for middle school students, who compete in tournaments in the Myrtle Beach area. 

2004
Ashley Cameron has been promoted to principal at Waccamaw Elementary School in Georgetown, where she previously served as the assistant principal.

2010
Alex Wetherell has joined CresCom Bank of West Ashley as a credit analyst and bank officer. He previously served as the vice president and client development officer at Paragon Commercial Bank in Charlotte. 

2011
Amy Haggard recently earned a master’s degree in student affairs in higher education from Colorado State University. She works at CCU’s Office of Alumni Relations. 
Jake Webster is the certified athletic trainer for Darlington High School. He also serves as an athletic training coordinator and has been a member of the McLeod Sports Medicine team since 2014. 

2012
Kira Carter has been named an assistant coach with the women’s basketball program at the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee. She was previously coached at Missouri S&T. Carter earned master’s degree in sports leadership from Duquesne University in August of 2015.

2015
Shane Kilduff was named an account administrator at New Day Underwriting Managers in Hamilton, N.J. He previously worked at MB Associates and as a financial professional associate at Prudential Financial Group.
Carolyn Skews recently joined CresCom Bank of Myrtle Beach as a teller. She previously worked for Bay Naturals and Rooms to Go.

2016
Alex Cunningham was selected by the San Diego Padres in the ninth round of the 2017 Major League Baseball draft. He was 25-7 in 57 career games (46 starts) with a 3.06 ERA. In the CCU record book, Cunningham ranks fifth in strikeouts (295), sixth in games started (46), eighth in innings pitched (315.0) and 11th in wins (25).

Andy Rosenbaum is a civilian paralegal for the U.S. Navy at the SPAWAR Systems Center Atlantic in North Charleston. He is married to Lisa Briggs Rosenbaum ’88.

1990
Jeanine Powalie is a human resources generalist with BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina.

2000
Lauren Greico opened a clothing line called Worn and Branded NYC. She has been working in finance for the past 17 years at various firms on Wall Street. 

2001
Jimmy Bailey has named the assistant principal at Carolina Forest High School in Myrtle Beach. He previously served as a math teacher at Socastee High School.
Matt Daly has been named a regional operations manager with Founders Group International, which owns and/or operates 22 golf courses in the Myrtle Beach area. He previously served as head golf professional at TPC Myrtle Beach.
Matthew Maas has been appointed as director of the Environmental Resource Training Center at the Southern Illinois University Edwardsville School of Engineering.

2002
Brad Crumling has been named a regional operations manager with Founders Group International, which owns and/or operates 22 golf courses in the Myrtle Beach area. He previously served as the head golf professional at Myrtle Beach National.
Allison Chapman is a sixth-grade teacher at Long Middle School in Cheraw.

2005
Capt. Brandon Green is an air battle manager for the U.S Air Force. He is stationed at Robins Air Force Base in Houston County, Ga.
Jessica Henson is a veterinarian at Banfield Pet Hospital. She lives in Union, Ky.
Mark Kerr is a global cyber security risk manager for Bank of America in Charlotte.
Kelly Moore earned a master’s degree in sports leadership from James Madison University. She was recently promoted to director of development for the Chanticleer Athletic Foundation at CCU.
Spencer Reuter works at TEKsystems in Charlotte.

2006
Emily (Strayer) Otto is an associate with RE/MAX Southern Shores in Myrtle Beach.
Brittany Kepple is a national account executive with ARYZTA, a global baking company. She lives in Myrtle Beach.
Jason Schipper recently married Lilli Stevens in Hallandale Beach, Fla. He is a high school teacher in Boca Raton.

2007
Ebony Hills is an occupational health and safety technician with the U.S. Air Force.

2008
Brent Harrison is a senior airman deployed in Kuwait. He works in aircraft maintenance in the U.S. Air Force as a member of the North Carolina Air National Guard.
Caroline P. Smith is the University editor at Coastal Carolina University. She previously worked for seven years at The Sun News in Myrtle Beach. She has one daughter, Lilly, 6, and is a member at Palmetto Pointe Church in Myrtle Beach.

2009
Micah Lillard is the communications manager at Atlanta Motor Speedway.
Ashley McCleary works for Calvert County (Md.) Library. She lives in Chesapeake Beach, Md.
Andrea Rudder is a facilitator of various youth programs in Oahu, Hawaii. She also is a personal trainer. 

2010
Tyler Anthony and Kimberlee Ward ’13 were married on June 2, 2017.

2011
Cal Goodell is the new general manager at NICO Oysters + Seafood in Mount Pleasant. He is pursuing a Level 2 Sommelier certification. Goodell earned a degree in culinary arts, baking and restaurant management from the Arizona Culinary Institute. 
Shannon Klotsko has been named a Delta Science Fellow by California Sea Grant. She is a San Diego State University postdoctoral researcher using geophysical and geological data to understand fault architecture in the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta. Klotsko recently earned a Ph.D. from the Scripps Institution of Oceanography at the University of California, San Diego.
Katherine Mann is an environmental health manager for the S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control.
Daniel Obremski participated in the PGA Tournament, The Greenbrier Classic in White Sulphur Springs, W.Va.
Caitlin Sweeney is a second-grade teacher at Canarsie Ascend Lower School in Brooklyn, N.Y. She previously worked in charter schools that served low-income communities in Brooklyn.
Elizabeth Podmore is an analytical chemist with Shealy Environmental Services in Columbia.

2012
Sean Gilroy is a captain in the U.S. Marines serving with 2nd Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment based out of Camp Lejeune, N.C. He is married to Amber Martin Gilroy ’13, and they have one son, Cullen.
Santuan Stanley co-owns Myrtle Beach High Performance Center, a strength and conditioning facility.

2013
Michael Giangregorio and Ben Harris ’14 have started Nickel & Dime Supplement Club, which ships personalized supplement boxes to members on a monthly basis.
Charles Grace is the founder, frontman and songwriter for Sleeping Policeman. He has been making music on the Grand Strand for more than seven years.
Ellen (Baltz) Susral started a new position at River Oaks Elementary School as a 5th grade teacher. Ellen has been teaching for 5 years, previously at Waccamaw Elementary School. She recently married Daniel G. Susral ’13, who she met during her freshman year at CCU. She has completed both the Master of Education and Educational Specialist online programs at CCU, each one with an instructional technology emphasis. 

2014
Wilmot Thompson Merchant III is a volunteer teacher in the Philippines. He previously worked in Japan for the Asian Rural Institute.

2015 
Briana Dinkins is an admissions counselor and multicultural recruiter at the University of South Carolina. She recently earned a master’s degree in higher education administration from Columbia College.
Laura Donato lives in Norfolk, Va., where she is a graduate assistant for fraternity and sorority life at Old Dominion University.
Erin Ellis is the technology coordinator at Waccamaw Elementary School in Myrtle Beach.
Matt Huss is a manager assistant at Enterprise Holdings. He lives in Wall, N.J. 
Marissa Kohan lives in Pittsburgh, Pa., where she is the healthy lifestyles director at Elmcroft of Allison Park, a senior living community.

Ashley Studebaker is a fan services representative for the Cleveland Indians. She lives in Lakewood, Ohio.
Kristen Kibblehouse is an educator with the Atlantic White Shark Conservancy. She is also the event coordinator at the Cape Cod Regional STEM Network. Kibblehouse lives in Chatham, Mass.

Adrianna Seals is a news and digital producer at WBTW News Channel 13 in Myrtle Beach.

Christy Evans is the Teacher of the Year at the Alternative Center for Education in the Florence County School District. She is a math teacher and has 16 years of teaching experience.

2001
Matthew Maas recently was named director of the Environmental Resource Training Center at the Southern Illinois University Edwardsville School of Engineering.
John McAllister was recently hired as a residential sales agent at Coldwell Banker Caine in Spartanburg.

2005 
Lucas Bohn recently performed “Lesson Plans to Late Night” at Kent State University at Tuscarawas. The one-man show details his transition from an elementary school teacher to a national touring comedian. Bohn has performed with comedy icons such as Kevin Hart, Dave Chappelle and Jimmy Fallon. In 2013, he was nominated Comedian of the Year by Campus Activities Magazine.
Jessica Matthews teaches kinesiology and integrative wellness at Point Loma Nazarene University in San Diego.

2006
Matthew Starr is an associate at Stantec, where he oversees the coastal engineering services program.

Christi Rippy is the owner of the new AR Workshop, a DIY workshop in Myrtle Beach. The farmhouse-style franchise opened in July and is only one of three in South Carolna. She also works as the prospect research coordinator in CCU’s Office for Philanthropy.

Krisztina E. Szabo is a staff attorney at Whitman-Walker Health in Washington, D.C. She represents clients on a variety of issues, including access to health care/public benefits, employment discrimination, and immigration relief. Szabo was recently recognized as one of the “Best LGBT Lawyers Under 40” by the LGBT Bar Association.

Joseph Hurley is the new head athletic trainer and conditioning coach for the Spokane Chiefs. He was most recently the head athletic trainer for the Amarillo Bulls of the North American Hockey League.

Keyanna Hampton is the Teacher of the Year at Main Street Elementary School in Florence County, where she is a fourth-grade math teacher. She also is the dance team coach and head sponsor for the Beta Club at the school. Hampton is a member of the National Gifted Association, Palmetto Teacher’s Association and South Carolina Education Association. In addition, she is active in From Princess to Queen Rebirth, a nonprofit organization she started in 2009 that mentors females who are teenager and older.

Shay Myers accepted a position with a defense arms company that is contracted with the federal government. Myers previously worked as an IT asset manager analyst I, dealing with software licensing and compliance.
PFC Michael Sperduto graduated from the Marine Corps Depot in Parris Island, S.C., on Aug. 18, 2017.

Sara Becker is one of five national winners of the #ThisFirst contest sponsored by Volcom, a Southern California-based lifestyle brand and sports company. Her ‘this’ is using art to advocate for mental health. Becker holds membership at Second State Press, a communal printmaking workshop, where she has started two paper sculptures and a drawing.

Christopher Boyle recently held a book signing at Waterfront Books in Georgetown for his latest work, “The Road to Secession in Antebellum Georgetown and Horry Districts.”He is also the author of “Mansfield Plantation: A Legacy on the Black River.” Boyle is a social studies teacher at Socastee High School and a teaching associate at CCU.

Josh Norman was inducted into the Greenwood High School Hall of Fame in September. He played football, basketball, baseball and ran track for the Eagles. He won a state championship in football his senior year. Norman is a defensive back with the Washington Redskins.
