CCU recognizes 2022-2023 Student Involvement and Leadership Award winners

Coastal Carolina University held its annual Student Involvement and Leadership Awards (SILA) ceremony on Thursday, April 20, at 7 p.m. in Wheelwright Auditorium. During this year’s ceremony, outstanding students, faculty, and staff, as well as groups, were recognized and received a plaque, certificate, or a coveted Chanticleer rooster trophy.

Tyrik Pierre, a marketing major from Washington, D.C., was presented the Ronald D. Lackey Service Award, given annually to a CCU senior who serves the University community with conspicuous service through involvement and leadership in campus and community activities. While at CCU, Pierre has been involved with Nu Phi Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, African American Initiative for Men, Teal Trailblazers, served as National Pan-Hellenic vice president and president, was co-chair for the Interpersonal Violence Task Force, served as student representative for the South Carolina Commission on Higher Education Student Advisory Council, and was a SNAP mentor. He is a marketing intern in University Marketing and Communication.

This year’s award winners are as follows:

• Fraternity and Sorority Life Chapter President of the Year – Michael Meagher
• Fraternity and Sorority Life Greek Man of the Year – Tara Kellogg
• Fraternity and Sorority Life Greek Woman of the Year – Alec Stewart
• Fraternity and Sorority Outstanding Community Service – Gamma Phi Beta
• Fraternity and Sorority Life Rising Leader of the Year – Olivia Taylor
• Haven Hart Award – Adonya Pertell
• LiveWell Office Step Up! Award – Austin Brann
• Most Improved Organization of the Year – Doctors of Coastal: Pre-Med Club
• Outstanding Community Service by an Individual – Shatreia Dotson
• Outstanding Community Service by an Organization – Baptist Collegiate Ministry
• Pat Singleton-Young Student Advocate of the Year – Bob Jenkot
• Rising Leader of the Year – Gabrielle Ryder
• Ronald Lackey Service Award – Tyrik Pierre
• Student Leader of the Year – Imari Jones
• Student Organization Advisor of the Year – Amanda Masterpaul
• Student Organization of the Year – Social Justice Club
• Student Organization President of the Year – Maritza Mazariego
