Required Loan Counseling

Both Entrance and Exit counseling is required if you borrow a Direct Student or Direct Grad PLUS Loan. The purpose of Entrance and Exit counseling is to ensure that you understand your rights, responsibilities, and obligations as a loan borrower. It is important that YOU (the student borrowing the loan) complete this session, not a parent or spouse. Coastal Carolina University will be notified electronically when you successfully complete the Entrance or Exit counseling sessions.

As a first-time borrower at Coastal Carolina University, you must complete Entrance Loan Counseling in order for your loan to be certified, received in our office and applied toward your student account.

Please note that the information you provide as part of the certification is used for identification and will not be used for any other purpose. Your current loan awards can be viewed in Self-Service Financial Aid. With your FSA ID, all aggregate loan history information is available through Federal Student Aid

Additional Information:

  • You must be enrolled at least half time (6 credit hours-UG, 5 credit hours-GR) in eligible Title IV credits to receive your loan funds.
  • If you should withdraw from Coastal Carolina University OR drop below half-time you will enter your six-month grace period.  You must complete Exit Loan Counseling to meet federal regulations. Contact Financial Aid and Scholarships at 843-349-2313 or finaid@coastal.edu if you have any questions.
  • Typically, your loan is borrowed for the Fall and Spring semesters. One-half of the funds will be available during the Fall semester and the other half during the Spring semester.
