David Betsch joined University Housing at CCU in July 2011. He brings with him experience from five different universities, compiling more than 18 years of housing experience, including his undergraduate years working as a resident assistant. David earned his Bachelor of Arts in elementary education at the University of West Florida and his Master of Education in student personnel services at the University of South Carolina. David and his Resident Success Team are dedicated to creating a living and learning environment that is supportive of our residents’ academic pursuits.

Kat Mortensen came to Coastal Carolina University in July of 2012 as an area director in University Housing and became an assistant director in 2016. She now serves as the associate director for resident success focusing on special interest housing, housing services and student employment. She is from Ogden, Iowa, originally but has been all over the United States. She earned her bachelor's degree in applied mathematics from Grand View University in 2006 and earned her master's degree in student affairs administration in higher education from Ball State University in 2007. She has enjoyed working with all of the dedicated and passionate people at the University and in University Housing. She has loved seeing all the progress and growth over the last six years and looks forward to seeing just where CCU will go.

David Speiser is the assistant director for recruitment and selection and is responsible for the processes of recruiting, interviewing and hiring all student staff. He is originally from East Brunswick, N.J., but has lived in Illinois the past four years where he served as a residence hall coordinator. David earned a Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of Hartford in West Hartford, Conn., and a Master of Education in college student affairs from Rutgers University in New Brunswick, N.J. David is excited to be at Coastal Carolina University, where he can help connect students with opportunities for leadership and growth.

Jenna Jeslis is beginning her third year at CCU and stepping into a new role as the resident success specialist for student employment after serving two years as the community coordinator for Teal Hall. She is originally from the south suburbs of Chicago, where she grew up and made it a goal to never live through another Chicago winter again. Jenna earned a bachelor's degree in sociology from Western Illinois University, and she headed directly to the University of Mississippi to earn her master’s degree in higher education/student affairs. Jenna is thrilled to still be living in the South and to see what her second year at CCU will bring.

Kira Tillman is originally from Mullins, S.C., and is currently the resident success specialist for Student Conduct. She earned a bachelor's degree in business administration at Kennesaw State University in Kennesaw, Ga. While at KSU, she served as a resident assistant for University Housing and Residence Life. Shakira is excited to return to where she grew up and excited to be working at CCU.

Liz Morgan joined Coastal Carolina University in 2017 and is excited to begin year two as the housing services coordinator focusing on desk operations. Liz earned her bachelor's degree in social work from East Carolina University in Greenville, N.C. After spending four years as a resident director at High Point University in High Point, N.C., Liz has truly enjoyed working with the operations division of University Housing. Liz will graduate from the Master of Education in higher education administration program at Columbia College in Columbia, S.C., in August 2019.

Ellie Gathings joined Coastal Carolina University in July of 2017 and is the community coordinator for Tradition Hall. Originally from the mountains of North Carolina, Ellie earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts in theatre in 2015 from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, where she was a resident adviser for three years. After completing her undergraduate degree, Ellie attended the University of South Carolina for a Master of Education in higher education and student affairs, graduating in 2017. At USC, she worked in University Housing as an assistant residence life coordinator. Ellie is excited to continue to live in the Southeast and work at Coastal.

Tim Frederick is the community coordinator for CINO Hall. He is originally from the Detroit area of Michigan. He graduated first from Schoolcraft College in 2012 with an Associate of Arts in criminal justice, followed by a bachelor's degree in psychology from Eastern Michigan University in 2014, and finally with his master's degree in educational leadership in 2016 from Valdosta State University. While attending Valdosta State University, Tim worked as a residence hall director.

Christopher Winn serves as the community coordinator for Chanticleer Hall. Chris graduated with a master’s degree in higher education and student administration in 2015 from Springfield College in Massachusetts. Prior to earning his graduate degree, Chris attend the University of Hartford where he majored in U.S. history. Before arriving at CCU, Chris served as an area coordinator in the Office of Student Life at High Point University. Chris is excited to join Teal Nation and represent the University on Teal Tuesdays.

Christopher Hazelton, currently in his first year, serves as the community coordinator for Teal Hall. A Connecticut native, Chris attend Southern Connecticut State University where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education. After completing his undergraduate work, Chris earned a master’s degree in school counseling with a focus in student development in higher education at Central Connecticut State University. Before joining the team at Coastal Carolina, Chris served as a residence hall director at Central Connecticut State University. Chris is looking forward to assisting students with the first-year transition and is extremely excited to join Teal Nation.

Rachael Baker is excited to be changing roles at CCU to assistant director for Township Circle after serving two and a half years as the community coordinator for Ingle Hall. Originally from Wisconsin, she graduated from Concordia University Wisconsin in 2008 with a Master of Science in student personnel administration. Rachael earned her Bachelor of Arts from the University of Wisconsin at Parkside in criminal justice as well as a paralegal certification from Carthage College in 2004. Rachael has worked as a residence hall director at the University of Wisconsin at Parkside, Savannah College of Art and Design, and St. Norbert College as well as served as a program coordinator and adviser for grant programs in the state of Wisconsin. Rachael is excited to share her passion as it pertains to the transition for first-year students at Coastal Carolina University.

Rocken Roll joined Coastal Carolina University in June of 2015 and served as the housing services coordinator prior to being a community coordinator. Starting in Summer 2018 she in the community coordinator for Ingle Hall. Rocken earned her bachelor's degree in anthropology from the University of South Florida before completing her master’s degree in college student affairs from Eastern Illinois University. During her graduate program, Rocken worked for the student life office as a graduate student adviser to several student organizations. Emily Simon is starting her third year as the community coordinator for The Woods. She most recently comes from University of Wisconsin at Whitewater, but did her graduate work in college student personnel at Western Illinois University and her undergraduate work in early childhood education at Bowling Green State University. Although Emily grew up and worked in the Midwest for most of her life, she has spent a lot of time in South Carolina and is extremely excited to be working at Coastal Carolina University.

From Salters, S.C., Willette Capers brings more than 13 years of housing experience to the Coastal family and serves as the assistant director for University Place. Willette earned her Bachelor of Arts in English and theater from Claflin University, her Master of Arts in English literature from North Carolina Central University, and her Master of Science in postsecondary education with a concentration in higher education administration and leadership from Troy University. Willette returns to Coastal after a 10-year break and after having worked at three other institutions.

Andy Hieber is excited to be serving in his second year in teal and bronze as the Low Country Community coordinator. He proudly hails from the Kansas side of the Kansas City metropolitan area. With a bachelor's degree in communication from Colorado Christian University, Andy is proud to add another CCU to his resume by working at Coastal Carolina University. Most recently, Andy completed his Master of Science in higher education from the University of North Dakota. Chelsea Fried joins the CCU family as the community coordinator for Blue Ridge. She is from Concord, N.C., and received her Bachelor in Science in sociology from East Carolina University. Chelsea then attended Appalachian State University where she was a residence director while earning her Master in Education in college student development. She is excited to be working at Coastal Carolina University and to be a part of the Blue Ridge Community this year.

Susan Failing is the community coordinator for Grand Strand, Gardens and Georgetown. She is originally from Northwest Indiana. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in communication with an emphasis in public relations from Purdue University Calumet, and fell in love with student affairs when she served as a resident assistant. Susan then earned her Master of Arts in higher education student affairs from Eastern Michigan University. During her time at Eastern Michigan University, Susan served as a graduate hall director followed by a hearing officer for the Office of Wellness and Community Responsibility. Susan is excited to connect with the students at Coastal Carolina University.

Katie Martinez is originally from Custer, S.D., and serves as the community coordinator for Sandhills. She recently completed her M.S.Ed. at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Va., in May 2018. Katie has worked with housing as a student employee and pursued graduate internships in athletics as an academic advisor and learning specialist and student conduct as a conduct officer. Bringing a diverse background to Coastal Carolina, it is her hope to continue to grow and identify student development and prioritize care, safety, and success for her students in the apartment community.
