David BetschDavid Betsch joined University Housing at CCU in July 2011. He brings with him experience from five different universities, compiling more than 18 years of housing experience, including his undergraduate years working as a resident assistant. David earned his Bachelor of Arts in elementary education at the University of West Florida and his Master of Education in student personnel services at the University of South Carolina. David and his Resident Success Team are dedicated to creating a living and learning environment that is supportive of our residents’ academic pursuits.

Stephen Swieton 15-16Originally from Nebraska and raised in Illinois and Florida, Stephen Swieton earned his Bachelor of Arts in French language and literature with minors in theology and political science from Marquette University before pursuing a Master of Science in education in adult and higher education from Northern Illinois University. Prior to coming to Coastal, Stephen served for more than four years in the United States Peace Corps, teaching high school English as a foreign language and working on sustainable agroforestry projects in Kaele, Cameroon. At Coastal, Stephen was the resident director of the Grand Strand community in 2012 before becoming first-year engagement coordinator in January 2013 and later transitioning to his current role.

Kat Mortensen 15-16Kat Mortensen is from Ogden, Iowa, and is the assistant director for main campus. She earned her degree in applied mathematics from Grand View College in 2006 and earned a degree in student affairs administration in higher education from Ball State University in 2007. She's been with CCU since July 2012 and has enjoyed working with all of the dedicated and passionate people at the University.

Willette CapersFrom Salters, S.C., Willette Capers brings more than 13 years of housing experience to the Coastal family. Willette earned her Bachelor of Arts in English and theater from Claflin University, her Master of Arts in English literature from North Carolina Central University, and her Master of Science in postsecondary education with a concentration in higher education administration and leadership from Troy University. Willette returns to Coastal after a 10-year break and after having worked at three other institutions. Willette is the assistant director for University Place.

Engagement Team


Madeleine Whitmire 15-16Madeleine Bordelon serves as the student staff selection and community coordinator for The Gardens. She earned her bachelor's degree from Louisiana State University in history and minored in religious studies. She then completed her master's in education with a focus on educational leadership while working as a community director at the University of South Alabama. She relocated to Coastal Carolina University after growing up in New Orleans and spending time along the Gulf Coast. She enjoys CCU football, Teal Tuesdays and "This Day in History" calendars.

Taylor Keating imageTaylor Keating serves as the resident success specialist for the engagement team. Originally from Connecticut, she moved to South Carolina and earned her Bachelor of Science in business marketing from Coastal Carolina University in 2014. After traveling, Taylor made her way back to Conway and is excited to be back in the CCU community.

‌‌Rachael BakerRachael Baker is the community coordinator for Ingle Hall. Originally from Wisconsin, she graduated from Concordia University Wisconsin in 2008 with a Master of Science in student personnel administration. Rachael earned her Bachelor of Arts from the University of Wisconsin at Parkside in criminal justice as well as a paralegal certification from Carthage College in 2004. Rachael has worked as a residence hall director at the University of Wisconsin at Parkside, Savannah College of Art and Design, and St. Norbert College as well as served as a program coordinator and adviser for grant programs in the state of Wisconsin. Rachael is excited to share her passion as it pertains to the transition for first-year students at Coastal Carolina University.

Jenna JeslisJenna Jeslis is beginning her second year as the community coordinator for Teal Hall. She is originally from the south suburbs of Chicago, where she grew up and made it a goal to never live through another Chicago winter again. Jenna earned a bachelor's degree in sociology from Western Illinois University, and she headed directly to the University of Mississippi to earn her master’s degree in higher education/student affairs. Jenna is thrilled to still be living in the South and to see what her second year at CCU will bring.

Jeremy TillmanJeremy Tillman is from Sandersville, Ga., and serves as the community coordinator for Eaglin Hall. He earned his degree in mathematics from Kennesaw State University, where he also served as a resident adviser for two years. After graduation, Jeremy moved to Oxford, Miss., and earned his master's degree in higher education/student personnel from the University of Mississippi while serving as a graduate community director for Student Housing. Jeremy is glad to be a Chanticleer and is most excited about showing school pride on Teal Tuesdays.

Emily SimonEmily Simon is the community coordinator for The Woods this year. She most recently comes from University of Wisconsin at Whitewater, but did her graduate work in college student personnel at Western Illinois University and her undergraduate work in early childhood education at Bowling Green State University. Although Emily grew up and worked in the Midwest for most of her life, she has spent a lot of time in South Carolina and is extremely excited to be working at Coastal Carolina University.

Tim FrederickTim Frederick is the community coordinator for CINO Hall. He is originally from the Greater Detroit area of Michigan. He graduated first from Schoolcraft College in 2012 with an associate of arts in criminal justice, followed by a bachelor's degree in psychology from Eastern Michigan University in 2014, and finally with his master's degree in educational leadership in 2016 from Valdosta State University. While attending Valdosta State University, Tim worked as a residence hall director.

‌‌Christopher Winn imageChristopher Winn serves as the community coordinator for Chanticleer Hall and Tradition Hall. Chris graduated with his master’s degree in higher education and student administration in 2015 from Springfield College in Massachusetts. Prior to earning his master’s degree, Chris attend the University of Hartford where he majored in United States history. Before arriving at Coastal Carolina Chris served as an area coordinator in the Office of Student Life at High Point University. Chris is excited to join Teal Nation and represent the University on Teal Tuesdays.

Shakira Tillman imageShakira Tillman is originally from Mullins, S.C., and is currently the resident success specialist for University Place. She earned a bachelor's degree in business administration at Kennesaw State University in Kennesaw, Ga. While at KSU, she served as a resident assistant for University Housing and Residence Life. Shakira is excited to return to where she grew up and excited to be working at CCU.

‌‌Rocken Roll 15-16Rocken Roll joined Coastal Carolina University in June of 2015 and served as the housing services coordinator. She then transitioned to her role as the community coordinator for Blue Ridge in the fall of 2016. Rocken earned her bachelor's degree in anthropology from the University of South Florida before completing her master’s degree in college student affairs from Eastern Illinois University. During her graduate program, Rocken worked for the student life office as a graduate student adviser to several student organizations. Rocken is excited to return to the Blue Ridge Community as the community coordinator.

Jay Cusick 15-16
Jay Cusick joined Coastal Carolina University in July of 2015 and is the community coordinator for the Sandhills Community. Jay earned his bachelor's degree in theology from Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio, before completing his master's degree in student affairs higher education from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. Although Jay grew up in the Midwest, he has spent a lot of time in South Carolina and is excited to serve and work with the students of Coastal Carolina University.

Aimee RobinsonAimee Robinson is originally from Nashville and is currently serving as the community coordinator for Grand Strand. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in English and a Master of Science in college student personnel from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville. While at UTK, she served as a resident assistant and an assistant hall director for University Housing. Aimee is excited to continue building strong relationships in the CCU community.

Lizzie Anderson imageLizzie Anderson joined Coastal Carolina University in July of 2017 and is the community coordinator for the Piedmont Community. Originally from the mountains of North Carolina, Lizzie earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts in theatre in 2015 from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, where she was a resident adviser for three years. After completing her undergraduate degree, Lizzie attended the University of South Carolina for a Master of Education in higher education and student affairs, graduating in 2017. At USC, she worked in University Housing as an assistant residence life coordinator. Lizzie is excited to continue to live in the Southeast and work at Coastal.

Andy Hieber imageAndy Hieber is excited to be serving in his first year in teal and bronze as the Low Country community coordinator. He proudly hails from the Kansas side of the Kansas City metropolitan area. With a bachelor's degree in communication from Colorado Christian University, Andy is proud to add another CCU to his resume by working at Coastal Carolina University. Most recently, Andy completed his Master of Science in higher education from the University of North Dakota. He looks forward to helping CCU students experience important and exciting personal and professional growth.
