David Betsch imageDavid Betsch joined University Housing at CCU in July 2011. He brings with him experience from five different universities, compiling more than 18 years of housing experience, including his undergraduate years working as a resident assistant. David earned his Bachelor of Arts in elementary education at the University of West Florida and his Master of Education in student personnel services at the University of South Carolina. David and his Resident Success Team are dedicated to creating a living and learning environment that is supportive of our residents’ academic pursuits.

Rachael Baker image

Rachael Baker is excited to provide her leadership at CCU in a different way as Associate Director for Resident Success after being both the Ingle Hall Community Coordinator and Assistant Director for Township Circle. Originally from Wisconsin, she graduated from Concordia University Wisconsin in 2008 with a Master of Science in student personnel administration. Rachael earned her Bachelor of Arts from the University of Wisconsin at Parkside in criminal justice as well as a paralegal certification from Carthage College in 2004. Rachael has worked as a residence hall director at the University of Wisconsin at Parkside, Savannah College of Art and Design, and St. Norbert College as well as served as a program coordinator and adviser for grant programs in the state of Wisconsin. Rachael is excited to share her passion as it pertains to the transition for first-year students at Coastal Carolina University.

Chanticleer HallAlex Drose

Alex Drose joined Coastal Carolina University in March 2019 as the Community Coordinator for Chanticleer Hall. Alex is from Charlotte, NC and attended UNC Chapel Hill where she earned her Bachelor of Arts in Linguistics & Romance Languages (Italian). Alex interned in Saronno, Italy teaching English in a high school. She earned her Master of Arts in Higher Education at Appalachian State University then worked for a year and a half at the College of Charleston as a Professional Residence Hall Director. Alex loves to read, bake, and volunteer for US Quidditch. She is very excited to work with the first-year students here at CCU!

DeCenzo Hall (formerly Teal Hall)

Taylor Wright joined Teal Nation in March, 2021 as the Community Coordinator for DeCenzo Hall. She was born and raised in Kettering, Ohio and received her Bachelors of Arts in Psychology from the University of Kentucky, where her residence life journey began. From there, Taylor attended Murray State University to earn a Masters of Science in Human Development and Leadership while serving as a Residence Director. Taylor loves watching, playing, and coaching sports. She is excited to work with first-year students and have this new adventure in the Carolinas.

Singleton-Young HallBrianna Glenn

Bri Glenn recently joined Coastal Carolina University in July 2020 as the Community Coordinator of Pat Singleton-Young Hall. She was born and raised in Martinsville, VA. Bri attended Radford University, in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains, where she earned her bachelor's in education. After her earning her undergraduate degree, she spent one year working at Wingate University before earning a Master’s in Higher Education Leadership from Valdosta State University. Bri is excited to return to the Carolinas and be a part of Teal Nation.

Tradition HallDJ_Stroud

DJ Stroud returned to South Carolina in August 2020 as the Community Coordinator for Tradition Hall. DJ is from Latta, South Carolina and attended Lander University where he earned his Bachelor’s degree in Sociology. While at Lander, DJ served as a Head Resident Assistant and was an ACUHO-I intern for Harvard University’s Pre-College Program. DJ earned his Master’s degree in Higher Education from the University of North Carolina Wilmington where he served as an Assistant Residence Coordinator and completed an internship with Maynooth University’s Student Union in Ireland. DJ has a wide variety of interests including watching The Golden Girls, Grey’s Anatomy and his many Netflix obsessions, traveling to new places, collecting Funko Pops, and playing video games. DJ is excited to be back in South Carolina and to be closer to his family.

Assistant Director

Sara Bailey joined Teal Nation in January 2021 as the Assistant Director for Resident Success, Elvington Loop. She has over 15 years of Student Affairs experience with the majority of those years in Housing and Residence Life. She has previously worked as the Director of Orientation and First-Year Experience at Beacon College, the Assistant Director for Residence Education at Georgia Southern University, and a Resident Director (Community Coordinator) at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, Arkansas State University, and Murray State University. She earned her Bachelor of Arts-Honors degree in Organizational Communication at Murray State University and her Master of Science degree in College Student Personnel Services at Arkansas State University. Sara enjoys working with first-year students and teaching first-year experience courses. She is excited to join the Resident Success team and Teal Nation!

Township Circle

Eaglin HallTony Williams

Tony Williams recently joined Coastal Carolina University in July 2019 as the Community Coordinator of Eaglin Hall. He was born in New York but raised in East Stroudsburg, PA. He attended Kutztown University of Pennsylvania for both his undergraduate and graduate studies, receiving his Bachelor of Science in Clinical Psychology and Master of Education in Student Affairs in Higher Education. Tony enjoys laughing, dancing, music, and being creative. He is excited to be part of Teal Nation working with first year students!

Ingle Hall

Cait Lopes recently joined Coastal Carolina University in March 2021 as the Community Coordinator of Ingle Hall. She was born in Queens, NY and raised in the Bronx, NY. Cait attended St. John’s University in Queens, NY where she earned her Bachelor’s in Hospitality Management. Cait earned her Master’s degree in Higher Education Administration from the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, PA. She enjoys cooking, shopping, and going to the beach. Cait is very excited to be a part of Teal Nation and work with first year students at CCU!

The Woods

Wesley Williams recently rejoined Coastal Carolina University in October 2020 as the Community Coordinator of the Woods. He was born and raised in Hemingway, SC. Wes attended CCU as undergrad and completed a degree in Business Administration, and he then went on to complete his Master of Education at DeSales University in Allentown, PA. Wes enjoys gaming, sports, music, and competition. He is excited to be back in Teal Nation once again and working with first-year students!

Blue Ridge and GeorgetownCarrie Bovill

Carrie Bovill joined University Housing in July 2019 and is the Community Coordinator for Blue Ridge. She is was born in Springfield, Massachusetts and was raised in Greenwood, South Carolina. Carrie went on to Morris College to earn a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice. Carrie continued with her studies at Clark Atlanta University earning a Master degree in Public Administration with a concentration in Community and Economic Development. Carrie's higher education journey began at Duke University as a Site Coordinator and is now excited to be apart of the CCU family.

Grand Strand, The Gardens and GeorgetownTom Scearce

Tom Scearce recently joined University Housing in April, 2021 as the Community Coordinator for Grand Strand, The Gardens, and Georgetown. He is originally from Chicago, Illinois and went to Drake University where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Public Relations with a minor in Marketing. Tom then attended the University of Tennessee, Knoxville where he received his Master of Science degree in College Student Personnel. After graduate school, Tom worked at Regis University in Denver, Colorado as an Assistant Director of Housing. Tom enjoys baking, reality TV, exercising, and video games. He is passionate about helping students have a transformational college experience and is so excited to be a part of #TealNation!

Low CountryTyler Ragland

Tyler Ragland joined CCU in July 2019 and is the Community Coordinator for Low Country. Tyler is originally from the home of hot chicken and country music, Nashville, Tennessee.  Tyler received a Bachelor of Science degree in Communication Arts with a concentration in Internet and Web Technology in 2016. He then attended the University of Louisville to receive his Master of Education in College Student Personnel. Tyler is passionate in helping students grow in all facets of life and preparing them for their bright futures. He is looking forward to being at Coastal and to be able to #FeelTheTeal on a daily basis.

Katie Fisher joined University Housing in November of 2018 and is the Community Coordinator for the Piedmont Community in University Place. After growing up in Charlotte, N.C., Katie went on to the University of North Carolina Wilmington to earn a Bachelor of Arts in Communication Studies in 2014. Katie continued on at UNCW to earn a Master of Arts in conflict management and resolution in 2017 while working as an assistant residence coordinator for Housing and Residence Life. She is excited to be working in and exploring another part of the Carolina coast.

SandhillsWill Taylor

Will Taylor joined CCU in April 2019 and is the Community Coordinator for Sandhills. Will is originally from the Wilmington, NC area and started his Residence Life career as a RA at the University of North Carolina Wilmington (UNCW) where he was Political Science major. He stayed at UNCW for graduate school and continued working in housing as an Assistant Residence Coordinator. After graduate school, Will became a Residence Hall Director at Stony Brook University on Long Island, NY for 4 years and served as the Residence Hall Association (RHA) Advisor.  Will is passionate in helping students grow as leaders, and building strong communities. He is looking forward on wearing teal again, and having amazing time here at Coastal!

Housing Services

David Speiser imageDavid Speiser is the Assistant Director for Housing Services and is responsible for desk and conference operations, as well as student staff recruitment and selection. He is originally from East Brunswick, N.J. David earned a Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of Hartford in West Hartford, Conn., and a Master of Education in College Student Affairs from Rutgers University in New Brunswick, N.J. David enjoys connecting students with opportunities for leadership and growth.

Alexis McGarveyAlexis McGarvey recently joined the Resident Success Team as the Resident Success Specialist for Student Employment. She is originally from Flowery Branch, Georgia and received her Bachelors of Science in Sociology with a Criminal Justice certificate. She is currently working on a Master of Higher Education with a focus in Leadership and Success. Alexis has found a passion to enhance the student experience through continuous engagement. She started as a Resident Assistant at Georgia Southwestern State University and later transitioned to Senior Residential Leader. Alexis loves that University Housing can offer an endless amount of resources and support for students during their transition.
