Take Back the Night March/Speakout

The LiveWell Office, Counseling Services and partners of the CCU CARES Coalition will sponsor the annual Take Back the Night March, Rally and Speakout as part of Sexual, Dating and Domestic Violence Awareness at the patio/stage of the Lib Jackson Student Union.  Participants are encouraged to bring posters to carry during the march expressing messages of support for survivors of violence as well as messages against violence.  For more information, contact Chris Donevant-Haines at cdhaines@coastal.edu or stop by the LiveWell Office in the Lib Jackson Student Union B202D. 

Love Your Body Day

Love Your Body Day is a national event inviting citizens to speak out against industries (cosmetics, fashion, diet and food) that use negative images and ads that lead women to believe their bodies are unacceptable and in need of constant improvement. The main aim of the day is to protest beauty standards that are unrealistic and unhealthy for men and women, combat industries that profit from women's dissatisfaction with their bodies, and break down stereotypes that discriminate against people based on their size and appearance. It is sponsored by the National Organization for Women (NOW) Foundation.

Horry CAST Haunted Hustle

5K Run/1 Mile Walk

Horry CAST is a community coalition made up of sectors that represent all areas of the community and have a passion for prevention and the wellbeing of our youth. The mission of the Horry CAST coalition is to address public health issues including substance abuse, through promotion, coordination and support of new and existing programs, with a focus on reducing youth substance use. All proceeds of this event will go towards the sustainability of the coalition’s efforts, and future events. We wanted to provide an opportunity for the community to have a safe and sober Halloween.  This event is open to all and participants are encouraged to come in their best family friendly Halloween costumes.

Come learn and understanding the Importance of Title IX, a law was enacted in 1972 to help prevent gender discrimination in the United States educational athletic system. This law, known commonly as Title IX, gives each gender equal rights to educational programs, activities and federal financial assistance. The fair is from 6 to 7 p.m. followed by a presentation by Aaron Boeat at 7:30 p.m. in the HTC Center Arena

Aaron Boe is a national speaker and developer of award-winning programs to prevent abusive relationships and sexual misconduct. He takes an innovative approach grounded in science that also equips people for ethical, positive, and healthy relationships of all kinds. He is the founder of Prevention Culture and developer of the Culture Strength brand for organizational change and the Complete Strength approach for equipping athletes for complete lives beyond the game.

5th Annual Out of the Darkness Walk

The Out of the Darkness walk supports survivors of suicide, those who have lost loved ones, and those who are struggling with depression or mental illness. All donations go to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP).

Participants may choose to walk individually or start their own team. The team that raises the most money will get to carry the Out of the Darkness banner at the front of the walk. To register for the Out of the Darkness Walk, visit https://afsp.org/coastal.
