Information Regarding Vaccinations

March 3, 2021

Dear Faculty and Staff Colleagues,

You may have heard the good news that Governor Henry McMaster and the S.C. Department of Environmental Health and Control (DHEC) announced the state’s COVID-19 vaccination plan will expand to include Phase 1b beginning Monday, March 8, 2021.

We have confirmed through the S.C. Commission on Higher Education that Phase 1b includes faculty and staff of universities and colleges.

Our emergency management team has been working closely with DHEC to establish a local health care provider that can offer vaccinations for our faculty and staff. We are delighted to share with you that Conway Medical Center (CMC) will serve as our health care provider, and plans are now underway to begin identifying dates for scheduling vaccination appointments.

Vaccination supply is a key factor in determining the dates scheduling can begin. CMC has let us know they have requested a number of vaccines specifically for CCU. The scheduling process and the administration of the first dose of vaccines is slated to begin on March 15, 2021.

Additional details regarding the number of slots on that date and the number of subsequent doses and dates will be forthcoming very soon. We will proceed with faculty and staff vaccines in alphabetical order.

Many of you have expressed an interest in getting a COVID-19 vaccination (as indicated in your survey responses). We will be receiving updates from CMC about when scheduling can begin and will provide those additional details as soon as they are available.

Individuals interested in obtaining a vaccine through other health care providers can learn more at scdhec.gov.

We are grateful for our partners at CMC and will keep you apprised of additional details about this process as they are made known to us.

Go Chants!

Michael T. Benson
