UNC Chapel Hill

Aug. 29, 2023

Coastal Carolina University Community,

Many of you may have heard about the tragic shooting that has impacted the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. I ask all members of TEALNation to join me in sending our condolences to the entire UNC campus community and all those affected by the senseless death of a faculty member.

Please know that support is available. I urge students who are struggling with this incident to contact CCU’s Center for Health and Well-Being or call 843-349-6543. CCU employees may use services available through the University’s employee assistance program, LifeServices EAP, which can be reached by calling 800-822-4847 or visiting lifeserviceseap.com. It is vital to take care of yourselves and each other.

All of us must remain vigilant and aware of what we see happening on our campus. If you notice any suspicious activity, please contact CCU’s Department of Public Safety. Our public safety officers train regularly for various situations to protect our campus, and we have extensive protocols and warning systems in place for alerting the University community of any threatening incidents. If you have not already done so, please sign up for CCU Alert to receive urgent emergency text messages to your mobile phone.

Michael Benson

Your safety is always our priority.
