Biography

Deborah Conner, Ph.D. is an Assistant Clinical Professor and the Coordinator of the B.A. in Higher Education and Community Engagement Program. Dr. Conner graduated with her Ph.D. in Educational Leadership from Clemson University and her M.Ed. in Student Personnel Services from the University of South Carolina. She was recognized by the South Carolina College Personnel Association with the Joseph O. Nixon Award as the Chief Student Affairs Officer of The Year in 2020 and in 2015 as the Alumnus of the Year for the University of South Carolina Higher Education Graduate Program.

She was part of a team that received the 2021 Best Practices in Student Retention Award at the National Symposium on Student Retention for the paper "A Case Study for the Successful Development and Assessment of a University Wide Academic Recovery Program for First-Year Students."
She has served on the faculty for NASPA’s Mid Manager Institute in 2017 and 2018 and has been a participant in the NASPA International Exchange Program. Her areas of research interest are organizational management, educational leadership, and student success and retention.

Interesting Facts

Conner served for eight years as CCU’s chief student affairs officer and vice president for student affairs. Prior to that she served in various positions at CCU starting in the fall of 1994.

Research interests include organizational management in education and factors of student success and retention in college.
