Biography
Keith R. Walters, Ph.D., joined the Coastal Carolina University faculty in 2001. He earned a bachelor's degree in biology from the University of Oregon in 1974, a master's degree in biology from Florida State University in 1977, and a Ph.D. in biology at the University of South Florida in 1987.
Walters has served as chair of Coastal's Department of Marine Science and helped develop the graduate program in coastal marine and wetland studies.
His areas of research interest include the study of salt marsh and oyster reef habitat restoration, the population and community ecology of intertidal plants and animals, and habitat effects of marine and terrestrial shoreline disturbance.
Walters was awarded a Fulbright award for scholarship in Australia in 1988-1989.
