James Solazzo, Ph.D., served as chair of the Department of Mathematics and Statistics from 2012 to 2017, when he was named associate provost. He has been a CCUl faculty member since 2004.

His areas of specialty are operator theory, frame theory, and financial mathematics. He was also involved at the national level in promoting undergraduate research in the mathematical sciences.

During Fall 2014, he participated in rewriting the South Carolina State Standards in Mathematics for K-12. He is currently involved in assisting K-5 educators in Horry County working with new standards.

Solazzo earned a Bachelor of Science in mathematics from SUNY Stony Brook in 1992, a Master of Science in mathematics from the University of Houston in 1996, and a Ph.D. in mathematics from the University of Houston in 2000. From 2000-2004 he worked at the University of Georgia as a post-doctoral fellow in the Vertical Integration Graduate Research Experience (VIGRE) which is funded by the National Science Foundation.
