New options being introduced in the summer of 2020!
S.T.E.A.M. Camps by Black Rocket Coastal Carolina Kids Camps are happy to announce a partnership with Black Rocket to bring the following camps to children 8-13 in our area.
Make Your First 3D Video Game!
Try this new version of a Black Rocket classic! This class allows you to develop a game concept that goes well beyond the limitations of the traditional 2D game design classes. Students will learn the physics behind 3D games, explore beginner event scripting, level design, controlling flow of gameplay, and story telling. Student created games will be available on a password protected Black Rocket website to share with friends and family.
Unlock the power of ROBLOX® Studio, the world creation tool used by real-world ROBLOX® developers! Learn how to build 3D models and create an adventure in your ROBLOX® world. Bring characters to life with unique animations you design. Student-created projects will be available on a password protected Black Rocket website to share with friends and family. Students will work in pairs or teams for most of the program.
Use your favorite game to learn the basics of modding and foundations of programming. Learn scripting and logic statements as you create your first mods! Introductory coding will also be taught through a simulated environment inspired by Minecraft. Student projects will be available on a password protected Black Rocket website to share with friends and family. Students must own a Java version of Minecraft. Tablet, phone, and game console versions of Minecraft are not compatible. Students will work in pairs or teams for most of the program. Returning students can create more advanced projects that build on previous years.
Using a specialized app & game development tool, students will explore the world of web-based (HTML5) mobile apps. In addition to learning the basics of mobile app design and game development, you will also see firsthand how the world of App publishing functions. Student-created apps will be accessible on a private site and can be played on any mobile device or computer. No prior experience is necessary and students do not need to own a smartphone or tablet to take the class.
Video Game Animation
Take your game design to the next level by creating and animating your own character sprites, objects, and backgrounds. Start with a name, develop the character’s personality, signature moves, special powers, and a story line. Finish with a fully animated character to be used in future games. Students do not need any prior experience in game design, animation, or sketching. Student-created animations will be available on a password protected Black Rocket website to share with friends and family.
Virtual Reality: The Future is Now
Embark on an EPIC adventure in virtual reality! In this cutting edge class, you will learn the foundations of VR design by creating your own virtual worlds, exploring simulated environments, and crafting memorable 3D experiences. At the end of the week, take home your first cardboard VR headset to show friends and family the new worlds you created. VR projects can be viewed on a website or a mobile device. Students do not need a mobile device to take the class, but to use the VR headset at home a camper will need access to an Android or Apple mobile device. Students will work in pairs or teams and VR Games will be available on a password protected Black Rocket website to share with friends and family.
Our traditional themed camps for 6-10 year olds will be announced in March or early April as soon as our schedule for the summer is finalized. Expect art, exercise, dance, science, travel, language, magic, Harry Potter, superheroes, writing and more! Photos below were taken of previous campers at CCKC!
Extended hour option:
For those working parents who find it difficult to drop children off at 8:30 (when camps begin) and to pick them up at 5:00 (when our centers close), we are now offering an extended hour option. For $50 per week, a child may arrive as early as 8:00 a.m. and will be supervised until 5:30 p.m.
Traditional Coastal Carolina Kids' Camps are $85 per camp.
Black Rocket STEAM courses will be $165-$185 per camp.
*Note: We will provide a supervised lunch period from 12:30 p.m. - 1 p.m. for those campers staying all day. Campers attending all day will need to pack a lunch with a drink. Snacks: We encourage you to provide healthy snacks and drinks for break times.
Refunds: Refunds will be made if withdrawal from a camp is received in writing at least seven working days prior to the start of the class. Failure to attend a camp without notification or cancellation will not result in a refund.
