CCU students and alumni connect with potential employers during Spring 2023 Career Fair

March 6, 2023

Approximately 500 Coastal Carolina University students and alumni had the opportunity to meet with nearly 90 employers during the Spring 2023 Career Fair on Wednesday, March 1. Hosted each semester by CCU’s Career Services, the event provides attendees an opportunity to network, learn about a variety of career options, gain interview experience, and secure employment.

“This is a great opportunity for students and alumni to look for internships, full-time jobs, and part-time jobs,” said Verne Walker, Ph.D., director of Career Services at CCU. “This is a perfect place for freshmen and sophomores to start networking and see what employers expect from them.”

Kelli Moses-Dolfi, assistant director of Career Services and coordinator of career exploration and marketing, said the career fair is one of many opportunities the office provides to support students and alumni entering the workforce.

“We do a lot of workshops, such as resume building and LinkedIn profile building,” she said. “We try to make sure we have resources available that help them with their career search.”

Waffle House, A.I.S. Observers, and IMCMV Margaritaville were sponsors of this semester’s fair. Other participating employers included various companies, including the Federal Bureau of Investigation, local news stations, resort and hotel companies, Horry County Schools, Horry Telephone Cooperative, and Conway Medical Center.

In addition to visiting employer booths, attendees could learn about graduate school options and have a free professional headshot taken by photographers from University Marketing and Communication.

Mitch Sorrow, division manager for Waffle House, described his hope for student attendees.

“Our ultimate goal is to help students match their goals and interests in a career with something we have to offer,” said Sorrow. “Don’t be afraid to talk to as many people as you can, even companies you may not be interested in as they might have opportunities that align with what you’re looking for.”

Malissa Rosanina, a member of the talent acquisition team for A.I.S., said, “Our goal is to connect with as many students as we can today, whether it be freshmen or seniors. We want to make sure that we are here to perform outreach and find out which students really want to work with us and make a difference.”

Nicole Gianzanti, a marine science major, attended the spring fair after a great experience at the Fall 2022 event.

“I went to the career fair last semester, and I thought it was very organized,” Gianzanti said. “There were a lot of employers that I didn’t think would suit my major, so it gave me a broader insight for a better future.”

Hannah Hicks, a sustainability and coastal resilience major, was a first-time attendee. “I brought a bunch of resumes with me, and I really just wanted to get my name out there and make connections.”
