I am concerned and need more information

What do I do if I missed class as a result of this incident?

There are options for you. Please contact the Student Advocacy and Intervention team within the Dean of Students Office at 843-349-4161 or sai@coastal.edu. This team can assist in communication with professors and work on the option of a class change if necessary.

What is a no contact order and how do I obtain one?

A no contact order is an order that prohibits a person from being in physical or verbal contact with another person, whether it is face-to-face or over the phone or internet.

Students can seek a no contact order through the Dean of Students Office or CCU Public Safety. For more information about how to proceed with this option, contact the Student Advocacy and Intervention team within the Dean of Student Office at 843-349-4161 or the victim services coordinator at CCU Public Safety at 843-349-2178.

How do I obtain a restraining order?

Restraining orders are issued by Magistrates or Municipal Court Judges. The court requires that there be an established pattern of harassment, specifically at least two police reports within 90 days. Once ordered, a restraining order would remain in effect for a fixed period not to exceed one year. For more information about this process, contact the victim services coordinator at CCU Public Safety at 843-349-2178.

Can I speak to someone after regular office hours?

Counseling Services has a counselor available to speak with students in crisis after hours. To reach a counselor, call 843- 349-2911 and your call will be dispatched to the counselor on-call.

Family Justice Center is a local nonprofit organization that offers a 24-hour crisis line for counseling and advocacy services. The crisis line number is 844-208-0161.

What do I do if I do not feel safe where I live?

If you live on campus and need immediate support from professional staff, please contact the in-hall staff. There is an RA on duty in each community from 5 p.m. to 7 a.m. and 24 hours a day on the weekends; the on-call cellphone number is posted throughout each community for emergency use. RAs will contact professional staff if needed.

If you have filed a report with police, the victim services coordinator at CCU Public Safety can assist you with temporary confidential relocation assistance. Call the victim services coordinator at 843-349-2178.
