Noncredit course teaches the art of bonsai technique

January 25, 2005

Bonsai and Small Container Gardening will be the topic of a four-week course beginning Jan. 27 at Coastal Carolina University’s Waccamaw Higher Education Center in Litchfield.

Jasmine Govindoo, a master of the ancient art of bonsai techniques, will teach how to plant and transplant, turning small containers into miniature gardens. The course will meet on Thursdays each week from 1 to 3 p.m. through Feb. 17.

Using domestic bonsai candidates (wax myrtle, dogwood, azalea), flowers, herbs and succulents, participants will construct their own tabletop gardens. The course is $60, materials included.

The Waccmaw Center is located at 160 Willbrook Blvd., west of the Hampton Inn off U.S. 17 Bypass. To register, or for more information, call 349-4032.
