Gospel Sing Out at Coastal to feature gospel groups

February 1, 2005

Coastal Carolina University’s annual Gospel Sing Out is scheduled for Sunday, Feb. 6 at 4:30 p.m. in Wheelwright Auditorium. The event is free and open to the public.

Featured performers for the Gospel Sing Out include the Coastal Carolina University Gospel Choir, Cympl’ Touch and Youth on a Mission from Columbia.

Youth on a Mission is a group of 20 to 25 young people from Columbia dedicated to singing the praises of God; they are under the direction of John Lakin.

Cymp’l Touch, formed in 1994 at CCU, includes Regina Treadwell, Natasha McKinnon and Sheryta Spears, all Coastal alumni and former members of the Gospel Choir. The trio has performed at the Eddie Miles Theater and the House of Blues in North Myrtle Beach, as well as at local churches, weddings and for many varied events.

The event is part of Coastal’s annual African American Celebration, a series of events designed to highlight the art, history, music and theater of the African American culture. Other events will continue through the 2005 spring semester.
