Restaurant establishes scholarship for Coastal Carolina University students

September 9, 2005

Jimmy Buffet's Margaritaville restaurant in Myrtle Beach has established an annual scholarship for marine science students attending Coastal Carolina University.

The Margaritaville Annual Scholarship will be awarded to students majoring in marine science with preference given to students who are also employees of Margaritaville.

The scholarship will be matched by the Singing for Change Foundation (SFC), which was established by Buffett. Singing for Change was established with the purpose of "improving the quality of life for people and empowering individuals to make positive changes in their communities." SFC offers grants to nonprofit, community-based organizations that deal with social and environmental problems.

Coastal's marine science program is an interdisciplinary field that employs aspects of biology, chemistry, geology and physics toward the study of the ocean environment.

Margaritaville is located at Broadway at the Beach.
