History film Queen of the Mountain to be shown at Coastal

November 15, 2005

Queen of the Mountain, a documentary film about archaeologist Theresa Goell, will be shown Wednesday, Nov. 16 at 7 p.m. at Coastal Carolina University in Wall Auditorium. The event is free and open to the public.

Goell was an American archaeologist and ancient history scholar who traveled to Kurdish eastern Turkey in 1933 to lead the excavation of Nemrud Dagh/Mount Nemrud.

The site she and her team uncovered is now considered the eighth wonder of the ancient world, with monumental sculptures dating back more than 2,000 years. Among the more interesting finds Goell explored is the so-called Lion Horoscope, the oldest known Greek calendrical horoscope in the world.

Pizza, soda and cookies will be offered at 6:30 p.m. for the first 50 people who arrive. The one-hour film is hosted by the history departments honor program and the history club.
