During 2006, pianist Gary Stegall, associate professor of music at Coastal Carolina University, will present a series of four recitals celebrating the 250th anniversary of the birth of composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756-1791). Over the course of the four events, Stegall will perform a complete cycle of Mozarts piano sonatas.

The first recital is scheduled for Friday, Jan. 27 at 7:30 p.m. in the Recital Hall of the Thomas W. and Robin W. Edwards College of Humanities and Fine Arts. All the recitals in the series are free.

For the first recital, Stegall will perform five sonatas, beginning with Mozarts first three piano sonatas, all composed when he was 18 years old. During the second half of the program, he will perform two of the Parisian sonatas, well-known favorites written in the composers mature style.

Subsequent concerts in the series are scheduled for April 21, Sept. 29 and on Dec. 5, which is the anniversary of Mozarts death.

Stegall has performed throughout the U.S., Canada, Asia and Africa, as well as at the Vatican. As a chamber musician, he has performed at Piccolo Spoleto and as a guest artist with the dePasquale String Quartet of the Philadelphia Orchestra. He has appeared as a solo artist with orchestras including the Los Angeles Solo Repertory Orchestra, the Washington Metropolitan Orchestra, the Charleston Symphony, Long Bay Symphony and others.

Stegalls compact disc of the solo piano music of Belgian impressionist composer Joseph Jongen is in worldwide release on the Klavier-Kalmus International label.
