Biddles pledge $50,000 for CCU scholarship, field house

June 9, 2006

Attorney Marshall Biddle and his wife Courtney of Conway recently made a $50,000 pledge to Coastal that will establish a new scholarship and also contribute to the construction of the proposed athletic field house.

A total of $10,000 will be allotted toward the construction of the athletic field house, which will be located near the end zone of the football field in Brooks Stadium. One of the coaches' offices in the facility will be named to recognize the Biddle's gift.

A sum of $40,000 will be contributed for the establishment of the Biddle Family Annual Scholarship. This scholarship will help support students from Horry and Georgetown counties who pursue a master's degree in education. The creation of this scholarship, according to Marshall Biddle, complements the efforts of his parents, Larry and Ginny Biddle of Conway, whose gift to Coastal's Spadoni College of Education last year led to the establishment of the Biddle Center for Teaching and Learning, an outreach program that provides professional development and resources for area teachers.

"My parents have been involved with Coastal for many years, and my father was assistant director in the 1960s and '70s, so I feel a personal connection to CCU," says Biddle. "As residents of the area, my wife Courtney and I are proud of Coastal's growth and the impact it has had on the community. We have benefited from Coastal and we're glad to have the opportunity to do something for the university, and particularly to support students who are pursuing careers in education."
