On Friday, April 20, special agents of the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) Criminal Investigation department will lead a unique, interactive training seminar on tax fraud for a group of Coastal Carolina University business students.

The event will be held from noon to 6 p.m. in the Wall Center for Excellence in the E. Craig Wall Sr. College of Business Administration.

The IRS educational program, called the "Adrian Project," offers students a real-world experience in forensic accounting and introduces them to career opportunities in criminal fraud investigation.

Working in groups, students in Professor Meyer Drucker's graduate tax accounting class, as well as other CCU business students, will be assigned four hypothetical fraud cases. Under the instruction of IRS investigators, the students will investigate the crimes using forensic accounting methods. Hypothetical investigations include tax fraud, embezzlement, drug trafficking and other crime scenarios. The different groups will gather evidence and build their cases before giving a final briefing in the final hour of the program.

The Adrian Program has been successfully presented in universities in other parts of the U.S., but this is the first time the project will be offered in the Southeast.
