CCU faculty present wind quintet performance
This chamber concert will feature CCU wind faculty members Amy Tully (flute), Tonya Propst (horn), Anne Dervin (clarinet), Jessica Miller (oboe) and guest bassoonist George Schlazer. They will perform chamber pieces written by French composer Jacques Ibert, English composer Malcolm Arnold and American composer George Gershwin. The program also includes the monumental "Kammermusik" by Paul Hindemith.
Amy Tully, lecturer in music at Coastal, is principal flutist with the Long Bay Symphony and a frequent freelance performer throughout the Grand Strand area. At CCU, Tully teaches flute, music history and conducts the CCU flute choir.
Tonya Gray Propst, assistant professor of music, is director of the Summer Arts Music Academy at Coastal.
Jessica Miller, teaching associate at Coastal, is the principal oboist with the Long Bay Symphony and a frequent freelance player. She also plays with the Charleston and Augusta Symphonies. Anne Dervin, teaching associate, has performed chamber, solo and orchestral concerts throughout North and South Carolina, New York and Michigan. She is second clarinetist with the Long Bay Symphony and performs with the Fayetteville Symphony.
George Schlazer has been principal bassoonist with the Long Bay Symphony since 1993. He studied bassoon at Florida State University for both his bachelors and masters degrees, worked toward a master's degree in multiple winds (bassoon, oboe and bassoon), and studied with noted bassoonist William Winstead. Schlazer also performs with the Florence (S.C.) Symphony and the Florida Lakes Symphony in Orlando.
