The Rebecca Randall Bryan Art Gallery at Coastal Carolina University will present an exhibition of contemporary mixed media sculpture titled "Frank Poor: Shadows & Signs" starting Thursday, Oct. 25. The show, which is free and open to the public, continues through Thursday, Nov. 29.

Artist Frank Poor will discuss his work during an "Art for Lunch" presentation in the gallery on Oct. 25 from 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. The opening reception is the same day from 5 to 7 p.m.

A native of Georgia, Poor's sculpture is inspired by the vernacular architectural forms and hand lettered signs of the disappearing small town landscape of the South. The artist builds his forms from memory, rather than direct observation. Poor's sculptural reconstructions create a visual poetry that weaves together the past and the present.

"As residents of the rapidly changing South, I believe that all of us will find something hauntingly familiar and poignant in Mr. Poor's work," says Bryan Gallery Director Cynthia Farnell. "This is an art that is, in part, about the inexact process of remembering the past and the important role of vernacular architectural forms in the formation, definition and endurance of a collective cultural identity."
