Coastal presents concert by student guitar ensemble

A performance of classical guitar music will be presented Tuesday, Nov. 13 at 7:30 p.m. in the Recital Hall in the Thomas W. and Robin W. Edwards College of Humanities and Fine Arts at Coastal Carolina University. The concert is free and open to the public, but tickets are required.

The concert will feature the CCU Department of Music's guitar ensemble, consisting of student musicians Matt Doda, Uri Reisman, Ron Ott, Alex Mazevski, Daniel Koebler, Seymour Lewis and Joe Angelica.

The program will include music by composers such as Bizet, Albeniz, Rak, Sor, Carcassi, Brouwer, Villa-Lobos and Praetorius, among others.

The group is directed by Daniel Hull, who teaches guitar, music appreciation, music theory and ear-training at Coastal; he is also an instructor at Horry-Georgetown Technical College.

Hull earned a bachelor's degree in guitar performance from Illinois State University where he studied with Douglas Rubio; he earned a master' degree and a doctorate in guitar performance from the Eastman School of Music while studying with Nicholas Goluses. An active soloist and ensemble musician, Hull has performed throughout the United States, Europe and the Caribbean.

Tickets for the performance may be picked up at the Wheelwright Box Office Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. or prior to the concert outside the Recital Hall. For more information, call the box office at 349-2502.
