CCU to host 29th annual math contest

Coastal Carolina University will host the 29th Annual Math Contest for high school students, sponsored by Coastal and AVX, on Friday, April 4 from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. in CCU's Wall Auditorium. The purpose of this event is to stimulate interest in mathematics among high school students. Several South Carolina high schools, along with one North Carolina school, will compete for awards, prizes and scholarships in two levels of competition.

Coastal offers a Coastal Scholars Award to the highest scoring Horry County senior on the Level II test.

In addition to competitions, CCU professor Andrew Incognito will give a presentation titled "Introduction to Sudoku." Incognito, an assistant professor of mathematics and statistics at CCU, earned a bachelor's, a master's and a doctorate degree from Temple University.

The following high schools will participate: A.C. Flora, Beaufort Academy, Carvers Bay, Carolina Forest, Creek Bridge, Goose Creek, John T. Hoggard (North Carolina), C.A. Johnson, Keenan, Ben Lippen, Mullins, Spring Valley, Wando, Williston-Elko and Wilson.

1:45 to 2:15 p.m. ..................... Sudoku (Wall Auditorium)

2:15 to 2:30 p.m. ...................... Awards Presentation (Wall Auditorium)
