Coastal hosts Relay for Life on April 25 and 26

April 11, 2008

Coastal Carolina University is co-sponsoring its second Relay for Life with the American Cancer Society from 7 p.m., Friday, April 25 to 7 a.m. Saturday, April 26 at the CCU Track.

The overnight event, co-hosted by Students Taking Active Responsibility (STAR), is designed to bring together those who have been touched by cancer in the community. The event celebrates survivorship and raises money to help the American Cancer Society in its mission to save lives and help those affected by cancer. During the event, teams gather at schools, fairgrounds or parks and take turns walking or running laps. Each team aims to keep at least one team member on the track at all times.

Individuals can register for $10 online or in person by check or cash; teams may be formed in the same manner. There are no fees for survivors registering as individuals or as a team.

If you are interested in forming a team or want more information, contact Todd Harwell or Jennifer Regan, the overall event co-chairs at (843) 349-2337 or ccustar@yahoo.com or go to the Relay for Life of CCU Web site at www.events.cancer.org/rflccusc.

Last year, the first Coastal Carolina University Relay for Life raised a total of $36,418 and was recognized by the American Cancer Society as the 2006-2007 Outstanding College and University Event in the South Atlantic Division for the state. This year CCU's fundraising goal is $50,000.
