Classes and events cancelled today

April 15, 2008

In the past 24 hours, two separate incidents have occurred near campus: a homicide at Barberry Drive and a break-in at Campus Edge. The victim of the shooting on Barberry Drive was not a student. Two Coastal Carolina University students and one Horry-Georgetown Technical College student were victims in the break-in incident.

Although both incidents occurred at off-campus locations and CCU officials do not perceive an immediate threat to the campus community, all classes and university events will be cancelled today, Tuesday, April 15, as a precautionary measure. Police are investigating the incidents, and there will be an elevated security presence on campus. The campus is open today, but if staff members would like to take annual leave, they should contact their supervisors.

Campus police ask everyone to be aware of their surroundings and report any suspicious activities to 843 349-2177.

The Georgetown and Litchfield campuses are operating as scheduled.

An update on the situation will be issued at 4 p.m. today.
