CCU 'Jazz After Hours' to play all-American tunes

"Jazz After Hours," Coastal Carolina University's big band, will perform Wednesday, April 23 at 7:30 p.m. in Wheelwright Auditorium at Coastal. Doors open at 7 p.m. for a pre-show featuring the After Hours Combo. General admission is $8, alumni and senior citizens are $6, and CCU students, faculty and staff are free with a valid ID.

Jazz After Hours specializes in American forms of music. The band will play a mix of classics from the golden age of big band jazz to contemporary songs composed for today's jazz bands. The concert will feature the music of Benny _Goodman, Chick Corea, Duke Ellington, Glenn Miller, Stevie Wonder and Pat _Metheny,_ as well as contemporary big band compositions.

The program will also include selections played by smaller groups of students who form the After Hours combo. Special guests include the_ CCU _Chamber Choir and the CCU Electric Bass Ensemble.

The performance is a biannual event, occurring at the end of each semester, directed by Dan O'Reilly of the CCU music faculty.

O'Reilly earned a bachelor's degree and master's degree in composition from Long Island University. He has performed in venues along the Grand Strand including the House of Blues, Broadway at the Beach and the Palace Theatre. O'Reilly performs regularly and continues to be an active studio recording musician.

Jazz After Hours and the After Hours Combo are two of the 15 musical ensembles at CCU offered through the Department of Music.
