CCU's Pop 101 offers spring concert

Coastal Carolina University's student rock 'n' roll group, POP 101, will perform on Saturday, April 26 at 7:30 p.m. in Wheelwright Auditorium at Coastal Carolina University. Doors open at 7 p.m. for a pre-show featuring "Guess the Faces of the '70s" game. General admission is $8, alumni and senior citizens $6, and CCU students, faculty and staff are free with a valid ID.

POP 101 is CCU's contemporary music ensemble, which performs popular music in a rock 'n' roll context. The concert is a sequel to last semester's '70s show, featuring hits of the decade performed by student vocalists and musicians.

The program will include songs made famous by the Beatles, Pink Floyd, Bruce Springsteen, _Marvin Gaye, Gladys Knight, Fleetwood Mac, Al Green, Boston, Foreigner, The_ Clash, The Ramones, Wings, Billy Joel, Steve Miller Band, KC & the Sunshine_ Band and more.

Saxophonist Dan O'Reilly, a member of CCU's music faculty, directs the ensemble, and will perform as well. O'Reilly earned bachelor's and master's degrees in composition from Long Island University. He is a lecturer of music at CCU, and his areas of study include the saxophone, popular music and jazz after hours. O'Reilly has performed in numerous venues across the Grand Strand area, and is an active studio recording artist.
