CCU student to perform contemporary dance

April 30, 2008

"Footnotes," an interpretive dance performance about shoes as a metaphor for life experience, will premiere at the Black Box Theater on Wednesday, May 7 at 7:30 p.m. Created by Coastal Carolina University student Jessica King, the multimedia performance is a culmination of her Spring Semester Independent Study in Visual Arts. The event is free and open to the public; tickets are not required.

King, a senior art major from Myrtle Beach, will perform with student accompanists from the Myrtle Beach School of Performing Arts. The show will feature contemporary dance as well as photographs of King in various shoes in different situations.

"Have you ever wondered about your shoe's soul?" says King. "Or perhaps where your soles have been? Your shoes speak volumes about your personality and at times directly relate to your experiences." She relates her "somewhat comical and dramatic experiences" through visual performance, digital photography and the spoken word.

The theater is located in the Thomas W. and Robin W. Edwards College of Humanities and Fine Arts.
