Greg Hembree, solicitor for Horry and Georgetown counties, will give a public talk about the U.S. Constitution on Wednesday, Sept. 17 in observance of Constitution Day, an annual national event commemorating the anniversary of the signing of the document that established the American government. The event, which is free and open to the public, will be held at 7 p.m. in the Recital Hall in Coastal Carolina University's Thomas W. and Robin W. Edwards College of Humanities and Fine Arts.

Hembree earned a bachelor's degree in economics from the University of Memphis in 1982 and a juris doctor from the University of South Carolina School of Law. He was admitted to the South Carolina Bar in 1986 and has practiced before the United States Supreme Court. He has spent 19 years as a criminal prosecutor, serving as an assistant solicitor for the Fifth Judicial Circuit and city attorney for the City of North Myrtle Beach before being elected to the office of solicitor. Hembree teaches courses to attorneys and law enforcement officers on a variety of criminal justice topics, and is a guest instructor for several courses coordinated by the National District Attorneys Association. He is immediate past president of the South Carolina Solicitor's Association.

The Constitution Day lecture is sponsored by the Institute for the Study of Liberty and by the University's Student Government Association andDivision of Student Affairs.
