Professor/author featured in 'Up for Discussion'

Coastal Carolina University English faculty member Joe Oestreich will read and discuss one of his essays as part of the "Up for Discussion" series at the Myrtle Beach Art Museum on Tuesday, Oct. 14. The series is free and open to the public.

Joe Oestreich, assistant professor of English at the University, will read his essay, "The Low Season," which was published in The Cimarron Review, about a vacation he and his wife spent in Mexico financed by attending timeshare sales pitches. Discussion topics at the session may include how to turn life experiences into written work, how we define success and what life is like for people who make a living in the tourist industry. Oestrich, who joined the University faculty in 2008, is a creative nonfiction specialist whose essays have appeared in Esquire, Sports Illustrated and many other magazines and journals.

All "Up for Discussion" literary events are free and open to the public. The Art Museum is located at 3100 S. Ocean Blvd, next to Springmaid Pier in Myrtle Beach. Parking is free.
