Coastal Carolina University professors Dan Abel and Phil Schneider will lead a discussion titled, "Environmental Ethics: If Trees and Polar Bears Could Talk," on Tuesday, Oct. 21 at 4:30 p.m. in the Recital Hall of the Thomas W. and Robin W. Edwards College of Humanities and Fine Arts. The event is free and open to the public.

The dialogue, which is part of the Tea & Ethics series sponsored by the University's Jackson Family Center for Ethics and Values, will repeat Wednesday, Oct. 29 at 5:30 p.m. at the Waccamaw Higher Education Center in Litchfield.

Issues to be discussed in the Tea & Ethics presentation will include discussion on the question: What is the impact of human ethics on the environment? Urban development and its relation to the environment is another topic, along with the value of being green.

Abel is an associate professor in the University's Department of Marine Science. He is director of the Coastal Carolina University Campus and Community Sustainability Initiative that started three years ago. He earned a doctorate degree from Scripps Institution of Oceanography and has published numerous texts and papers.

Schneider is a professor emeritus of philosophy and religion at Coastal Carolina University. He earned bachelor's degrees in mathematics, engineered physics and philosophy from Cornell University, as well as doctorate degrees in philosophy and statistics from Duke University.
