Hilarious Flutes Fantastic! show is Nov. 14

English flutist Trevor Wye will perform his internationally acclaimed show "Flutes Fantastic!" at Coastal Carolina University on Friday, Nov. 14 at 7:30 p.m. in the Recital Hall of the Thomas W. and Robin W. Edwards College of Humanities and Fine Arts.

General admission is $12; alumni and seniors, $8; teens ages 11 to 17, $3 and children 10 and under, free with adult ticket.

Wye has been presenting his program for more than 35 years throughout the world. The first half of the concert is a hilarious recital with commentary on the flute and flute d'amour; after the intermission, a performance of the famous "50 Variations on the Carnival of Venice," in which he plays on more than 50 different flutes, some electronic, which he built.

The Carnival Variations include a flute that flames, the "Emotive Flute," a human tibia, the world's rarest flute (the triple flageolet), a - 750-year-old flute, a bicycle pump, several electronic flutes, a vegetable flute, a flute which sends out fire, and many more. The Variations include music by Alford, Bach, Beethoven, Briccialdi, Chopin, Genin, Greig, Mendelssohn, Mozart, Rachmaninoff, Rossini, Sousa, Saint-Saens, Scott, Strauss, Schubert, Spike Jones, Tchaikovsky, Weber and Wye.
