COASTAL'S ALPHA SIGMA LAMBDA INDUCTION

April 3, 2001

Seventeen students have been inducted into Coastal Carolina University’s Alpha Pi chapter of Alpha Sigma Lambda, an honor society for continuing students age 25 and older. The program, in its second year, is sponsored by Coastal’s Division of Extended Learning and Public Services.

To be eligible for membership, students must be matriculated in an undergraduate degree program and have a minimum of 24 graded semester hours at Coastal. Members are selected from the highest 10 percent of the class, and must have a grade point average of at least 3.2 on a 4.0 scale.

The following students were inducted into Coastal’s Alpha Pi Chapter of Alpha Sigma Lambda:

• Kay Alford interdisciplinary studies Myrtle Beach; • Amy Blanton early childhood education Myrtle Beach; • Richard Dolan interdisciplinary studies Georgetown; • Louise Engelhardt-Gunnell interdisciplinary studies Pawleys Island; • Melanie Fox psychology Myrtle Beach; • Lisa Galloway English Surfside Beach; • Carol James chemistry Conway; • Tammy James sociology Conway; • Paula Laughinghouse early childhood education Loris; • Keith McNeal computer science Garden City; • Elizabeth Melvin English Myrtle Beach; • Diana Miller biology Myrtle Beach; • Leah Miller art studio Myrtle Beach; • Beverly Rockow psychology Myrtle Beach; • Shira Shasho chemistry Myrtle Beach; • Harriett Todd interdisciplinary studies Conway; and • Terry Windham secondary education Conway.

Elected officers for 2001-2002 are: Carol James, president; Diana Miller, vice president; Tammy James, treasurer; and Paula Laughinghouse, secretary.

Honorary member inductees include: Edgar Dyer, faculty director of Interdisciplinary Studies; Charmaine Tomczyk, associate provost and associate vice president for Academic Affairs; Horace Wood, associate professor of education; Judy Fontana, director of program development, Division of Extended Learning and Public Services; and Jennifer Shinaberger, director of academic outreach and distance learning, Division of Extended Learning and Public Services.

Dyer was the keynote speaker for the induction ceremony.
