Falconaires to perform at Coastal Carolina University

The United States Air Force Academy Band Falconaires will perform at Coastal Carolina University Wednesday, April 8 at 7:30 p.m. in Wheelwright Auditorium. The event is free and open to the public, but tickets are required.

The Falconaires, commanded and conducted by Lt. Col. Larry H. Lang, is a dynamic 18-piece jazz group featuring 19 full-time professional enlisted musicians. The group performs a variety of styles from big band/nostalgia to contemporary jazz and Latin music. They travel across the United States and Canada performing at public concerts, collegiate and high school jazz festivals, civic functions, arts festivals and military functions. The band has also performed at top jazz festivals and conferences around the nation, reaching out to the American people through the language of music.

The Falconaires received the International Association of Jazz Educators' Blue Chip Jazz CD Award in 1995 for their recording, "Thanks for the Memories," and the Honor Osborne Award for outstanding contribution to jazz education.

Lang entered the United States Air Force (USAF) in 1990, and in 1995 he was handpicked by the commander of Air Combat Command to lead the USAF Heritage of America Band at Langley Air Force Base, Va., where he earned five Air Force Organization Excellence Awards. He went on to command the Air Force Band of Liberty at Hanson Air Force Base, Mass., and was elected to membership in the prestigious American Bandmasters Association. Lang is a member of the National Band Association, the Conductor's Guild, the American Symphony Orchestra League and the College Band Directors National Association.
