Gospel Gala concert set for March 29

March 25, 2009

A "Gospel Gala" concert featuring four student choirs will be held in the Recital Hall of the Thomas W. and Robin W. Edwards College of Humanities and Fine Arts at Coastal Carolina University Sunday, March 29 at 4 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.

The concert will feature the Phase II ensemble of Coastal Carolina University, the Francis Marion University Choir, and the Morris College Choir, as well as a combined choir of high school and college students.

The singers in the combined choir will be students who attend the first annual Phase II Gospel Workshop at Coastal Carolina University scheduled for Friday, March 27 to Sunday, March 29.

Phase II, a student religious organization, created the workshop to offer instruction in gospel music performance and college life skills to area high school juniors and seniors as well as University students.

The choirs will be led by Katherine Manigo, a retired Jasper County High School music teacher and head of the Jasper County teacher cadet program. The workshops will be led by Coastal Carolina University staff members Travis Overton, coordinator of Greek Life; Brianne Parker, Learning Assistance Center director; and Kristi Thompson, Student Activities and Leadership coordinator of programs.
