Resort tourism students present plans for Waccamaw Pottery property

April 21, 2009

The students in Professor Taylor Damonte's resort tourism planning class at Coastal Carolina University have created development plans for a hypothetical site located in the area formerly known as the Waccamaw Outlets, Fantasy Harbor and Hard Rock Park (now Freestyle Music Park). Ten groups of students will present their proposals on Thursday, April 23 from noon to 5 p.m. in the Wall Auditorium. The event is open to the public.

The students, who have been working on the project since August 2008, will address a range of factors including market demand, financial feasibility from the perspective of both a developer and county government, and quality of life issues. Design elements chosen by some of the teams include a surf park, an indoor ski facility, an arena, cafés, shops, restaurant, and various types of lodging facilities.
