Coastal Carolina University announces personnel changes

July 13, 2009

Rose Marie Hussey has been named the coordinator of risk management in the Office of University Counsel at Coastal Carolina University.

She is responsible for reviewing and coordinating contracts and leases, as well as insurance issues and worker's compensation. Hussey has served as a trustee on the South Carolina Municipal Insurance Reserve Fund Board. As coordinator of the University's Strategic Planning effort, she will continue to serve in that capacity.

Hussey earned a master's degree in public administration from the University of South Carolina and College of Charleston in 2001 and a bachelor's degree in business administration from Charleston Southern University in 1984. She has professional experience as an administrator in municipal government.

Janice A. Cannan has been named director of environmental health and safety in the Office of Human Resources and Equal Opportunity. In her new role, Cannan will oversee the assessment, planning and development of the University's safety plan and will implement policies and procedures designed to enhance the overall health and safety of faculty, staff and students.

Cannan has been employed as a full-time administrator at the university since 2003 and has held various positions including, most recently, director of risk management and contract compliance. She also has been a teaching associate in the Department of Politics and Geography.

A 1996 graduate of Coastal Carolina University, Cannan earned a juris doctorate from the University of South Carolina in 2000 and was a managing partner of a Conway law firm. She was recognized as Distinguished Alumna of the Year from the Thomas W. and Robin W. Edwards College of Humanities and Fine Arts in 2003.
