Sculpture exhibit opens in Bryan Art Gallery

July 16, 2009

"Source Derivations: An Installation by Stacy Isenbarger," a sculpture exhibit, opens today, July 16, in Coastal Carolina University's Rebecca Randall Bryan Art Gallery. The exhibit, which explores the cultural meanings of sacred and secular imagery, will remain up until Aug. 28. It is free and open to the public.

A closing reception will be held at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 27. The gallery is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Thursday until Aug. 7, then 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Isenbarger, a native of Greenville, describes her exhibit as a "collection of recent sculptural works reflecting on spiritual signifiers and my mystification with cultural attempts to physically showcase enlightenment." The artist's work is a reflection of a childhood visit to Conyers, Ga., in the 1980s when housewife Nancy Fowler was said to have had apparitions of the Virgin Mary.

Isenbarger earned a bachelor's degree in sculpture from Clemson University in 2005, and a master's degree in sculpture from the Lamar Dodd School of Art at the University of Georgia in 2009. She was awarded an Emerging Educators' Fellowship Award and the University of Georgia Outstanding Teaching Assistant Award in 2009.
