CCU presents the 2010 African American Legacy Series
All events are free and open to the public. Events are on the University campus and are co-sponsored by the Office of Multicultural Student Services.

The events scheduled include:
* Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration
Thursday, Jan. 14 at 7 p.m. in the Wall Auditorium
Join the University in celebrating the struggles and triumphs of Martin Luther King Jr. This campuswide event celebrates unity and diversity. The featured speaker will be Bishop Michael Blue of The Door of Hope Christian Church in Marion. The University’s Inspirational Ambassadors (Gospel Choir) will also be featured. This event is co-sponsored by Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc.
* African American Music Through the Years
Wednesday, Feb. 10 at 7 p.m. in the Edwards Recital Hall
Various student organizations will join in a collaborative effort to celebrate the art, history and achievements of African Americans through a musical tribute.
* Sankofa African American Museum on Wheels
Thursday, Feb. 18 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Williams-Brice Small Gymnasium
Curator and South Carolina native Angela Jennings presents an impressive exhibit on African-American history. The walk-through exhibit is a testament to the significant contributions that African Americans have made to this country and the world.
* Portraits of Courage: African Americans You Wish You Had Known
Wednesday, Feb. 24 at 7 p.m. in the Wall Auditorium
“Portraits of Courage” is an examination of overlooked African Americans and their contributions to American history. Surprised at the absence of African-American figures in today’s history books, playwright Colin Cox created a theatrical piece to help bring recognition to a few of those who have helped shape our country. One woman and one man portray the characters in this live presentation.
* Gospel Sing Out
Sunday, March 7 at 4:30 p.m. in Wheelwright Auditorium
A celebration of joyous and heartfelt music, this annual event is a community favorite, featuring the harmony of the University’s Inspirational Ambassadors (Gospel Choir). The program also showcases other university choirs and groups from surrounding areas.
* SNAP SLAMMIN': Art & Poetry Showcase
Friday, March 26 at 7 p.m. in the Commons Courtyard
Members of Students Navigating and Advising Peers (S.N.A.P) Mentoring Program and Leadership Challenge present an evening of art and poetry created and read by University students, faculty and staff. This event will showcase students and special guest poets.
* North Carolina A&T “Cold Steel” Drum Line Showcase
Thursday, April 8 at 6:30 p.m. at Brooks Stadium
Enjoy an evening of rhythms and beats with North Carolina A&T University’s “Cold Steel” Drum Line. This event will highlight one of the rich traditions of America’s historically black universities, marching bands and drum ensembles. A&T’s 40-member ensemble is known for its precision and drum stunts. This event will also feature Coastal Carolina University’s drum line.
