Coastal Carolina University music professor Patti Edwards, soprano, will perform songs of praise and thanksgiving at a Palm Sunday concert at 3 p.m. on Sunday, March 28 at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church at 710 Main St. in Conway. She will be accompanied by Elsie Pollock, piano, and Mindy Burgin, cello. The event is free and open to the public.

The program will feature uplifting songs chosen to commemorate Palm Sunday, including “Sing my Soul in Praise of God” and “My Soul Hears in Seeing” by Georg Friedrich Handel, “Unto the Hills” by Ferdinand David, “Evening Prayer” by Engelbert Humperdinck, “Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring” by Bach, and a set of Negro spirituals. The program will also include arrangements of hymns for piano, cello and soprano.

Edwards, associate professor of music at the University and native of Georgetown, specializes in Baroque arias of Handel and Bach, classical works of the 20th and 21st centuries and the American art song. She earned a bachelor’s degree in music education from Mars Hill College, a master’s degree in vocal performance and graduate diploma in vocal chamber music from Saint Louis Conservatory, and a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of North Texas.

Pollock, of Georgetown, earned a bachelor’s degree in musicology from Furman University. She has performed with the Charleston, Wilmington and Greenville symphonies. Pollock currently serves as assistant organist and choir director at Holy Cross Faith Memorial Episcopal Church in Litchfield, and she operates a private piano studio.

Burgin, also of Georgetown, earned bachelor’s degrees in nursing and organ performance from Southern Adventist University and a master’s degree from the University of Tennessee. She is a member of the Florence Symphony Orchestra and serves as organist at St. James Episcopal Church in McClellenville and the Myrtle Beach Seventh-Day Adventist Church in Carolina Forest. She works part-time as a registered nurse at Conway Medical Center and is founder and director of the Kirabo Foundation.

The concert is a part of the Joyful Noise Concert Series sponsored by St. Paul’s Episcopal Church.
