CCU Department of Music’s Opera Workshop to perform

Students from the Coastal Carolina University Department of Music’s Opera Workshop will perform at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, April 5 and Tuesday, April 6 in the Recital Hall of the Thomas W. and Robin W. Edwards College of Humanities and Fine Arts. General admission is $3 and children (10 and under) are admitted free.

The event will include performances of scenes from Mozart's masterpiece "The Magic Flute" as well as arias from other operas. Music majors Meredith Gratton, Drew Benson, Trey Pittman, Katie Clark, Meghan Neff, Jamey Mateo, Sarah Lindblade, Suade Anderson and Brittany Shirley are the featured singers. Rebecca Rollins and Sarah Abushakra, will provide piano accompaniment.

The scenes are directed by David Bankston, workshop director and associate professor of music at the University, in collaboration with Joseph Rosko, senior musical theatre major.

Bankston earned a Doctor of Musical Arts degree and a master’s degree in vocal performance from the University of South Carolina. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Louisiana State University and is an alumnus of the San Francisco Opera's Merola Program and the Houston Grand Opera Studio.
