Mini Summer Youth camps offered to area children

June 21, 2010

The “Magical Wizards Camp,” "Fantastic Flower Child" and "Forensic Science" are a few of the creative camps designed for area children ages 6 through 12 this summer at Coastal Carolina University's Waccamaw High Education Center in Litchfield and the Myrtle Beach Education Center in Myrtle Beach.

The wizards camp is based on Harry Potter’s Hogwarts School of Wizardry. It provides children the opportunity to “use their imagination” to brew potions, go on quests, make wizard hats and wands, pick wizard names and write spells.

The centers also offer other camps, which will run Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 1 to 5 p.m.

Sign-up is still open for the following dates:

• June 28 – July 2, “Photography” or “UP!” and “Sugary Chefs” or “Coral Reef Commotion”

• July 12 – July 16, “Forensic Science” or “Computer Starters” and “Magical Wizards” or “Pirates”

• July 19 – July 23, “It’s Easy Being Green” or “Hardware Store Music” and “The Amazing Human Body” or “Musical Theatre”

• July 26 – July 30, “Photography” or “Pirates” and “Forensic Science Lab” or “Fantastic Flower Child”

Each camp costs $75. For more information or to sign up, call 843-349-4001 or 843-349-6584 or visit www.coastal.edu/outreach. The individual sessions are led by well-prepared, certified and trained instructors. The program operates in half-day and full-day weekly sessions in June and July, excluding the week that includes the 4th of July.
