CCU to present Atlanta Wind Symphony in concert

January 19, 2011

Coastal Carolina University’s Department of Music will present a concert by the Atlanta Wind Symphony at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 29 in Wheelwright Auditorium.

The Atlanta Wind Symphony, led by music director/conductor Patrick Carney, features passionate, dedicated musicians – from experienced professionals to talented hobbyists – that hail from the Atlanta area. Saturday’s concert is called “Tribute to the Greatest Generation,” in which the AWS will pay tribute to the men and women who grew up in the Great Depression, ended World War II and rebuilt America into a superpower.

Now in its 32nd season, the nonprofit Atlanta Wind Symphony is internationally respected for its musical excellence, service to the community and contribution to music education. This performance is part of the annual Coastal Honor Band & Scholarship Festival, Jan. 27-30, four days of invitational clinics and recitals on campus with high school band members and directors.

The concert is free and open to the public, but tickets are required. Tickets may be picked up at the Wheelwright Box Office, 108 Spadoni Park Circle in Conway, 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday or prior to the performance. For more information, call 843-349-2502.
