CCU ensembles to perform seasonal concert

February 8, 2011

Coastal Carolina University’s Chamber Choir and Jazz Ensemble will perform “Isn’t It Romantic,” a concert of jazz and romantic favorites, at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb 16.

The concert, which will be held in Wall Auditorium, will be directed by Terri Sinclair, associate professor of music; and Dan O’Reilly, lecturer of music.

The Chamber Choir will perform “S’Wonderful” by George and Ira Gershwin and “Thanks for the memory” by Leo Robin and Ralph Rainger with the jazz band. A cappella arrangements include “Let’s do it” by Cole Porter, “And so it goes” by Billy Joel, and a fun piece called “Tequila Samba” by Guy Turner on their own. Soloists will sing several selections including “The man I love,” “Summertime,” “Over the rainbow,” and “I only have eyes for you.”

O’Reilly has extensive performing experience both in New York City and along the Grand Strand. He also directs the University's Saxophone Ensemble and POP 101, a contemporary music ensemble.

Sinclair has published articles in scholarly journals, including the Choral Journal and North Carolina Music Educator. She was previously director of choral activities at UNC-Charlotte and UNC-Asheville.

Members of the Chamber Choir are the choral ambassadors for the University's Department of Music. The Chamber Choir performs all styles and periods and emphasizes a cappella music from the Renaissance period.

The Jazz Ensemble is the University's popular big band, and it repertoire covers musical styles from the 1940s to the present.
