Campus Moving-Out Sale is Saturday

May 12, 2011

A Campus Salvage yard sale will be held on Saturday, May 14, from 8 a.m. to noon at the PODS parking lot, 370 Allied Drive, on Coastal Carolina University's East Campus in the Atlantic Center. The sale is hosted by the University's Sustainability Initiative.

Items for sale include small household appliances and electronics, furniture and household items (lamps, rugs and decor).

People who bring two canned food items for donation to the Lowcountry Food Bank will receive a discount coupon to use during the sale.

"We have collected over 20 PODS full of items that the students didn't want when they moved out," says Jennifer Sellers, sustainability coordinator at the University. "The goal of Campus Salvage is to divert as much as possible from going into the Horry County landfill and to hopefully inspire students to think about ways they can donate or reuse items instead of throwing them away in the future."

A large majority of these items (clothing, household items, food, bedding) have been donated to the Alabama tornado relief and local charities, including 471 pounds of nonperishable food to the Low Country Food Bank, approximately 60 bags of clothes to Alabama tornado relief, Rahab House and Fostering Hope and 40 bags of bedding and towels to local animal shelters.

The rest of the items will be sold at the sale to cover the costs of placing all of these PODS throughout campus.
