Poet and educator to read from his work at CCU
Alarcon, who was born in Wilmington, Calif., and raised in Mexico, is an award-winning poet who has written 10 volumes of poetry, including “No Golden Gate for Us,” “Snake Poems: An Aztec Invocation,” “Poemas Zurdos,” “De amor oscuro/Of Dark Love” and “Body in Flames/Cuerpo en llamas.”
Alarcon, a recipient of the Danforth and Fulbright fellowships, has been awarded several literary prizes, including the 1993 American Book Award, the 1993 Pen Oakland Josephine Miles Award and the 1984 Chicano Literary Prize. He teaches at the University of California, Davis, where he directs the Spanish for Native Speakers program.
